Carson City arrests: Gas station burglary suspect puts uniform on to disguise himself from deputies

A 39-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of burglary of a business and gross misdemeanor destruction of property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Timothy Neilson was taken into custody at 11:48 p.m. following an investigation into a burglary of the Shell gas station in the 700 block of North Carson Street. According to the booking report, dispatch was advised someone broke glass on the front of the business to get inside.

When officers arrived they observed a rack of candy in front of the business and broken glass on the ground. The alarm was sounding and deputies observed someone inside moving around, the report states.

A perimeter was formed on the northwest side of the building and commands were given over a loudspeaker. After several minutes the suspect approached the front of the business and was detained for the investigation.

During the investigation deputies observed numerous uniforms and hangers all over the floor, along with an energy drink and clothing. The suspect admitted that he found a uniform that he exchanged with his clothing to assume a disguise. Other items of clothing were located.

Neilson told deputies he had been in the gas station earlier and had applied for a job there, but got angry, crumpled up the job application and threw it away, the report states. He also advised that he was trespassed from the warming shelter and broke into the gas station because he had no where else to go.

As part of the investigation, officers spoke with the reporting witnesses who advised they were visiting from Arizona and looking for a hotel when they saw the man break the front window of the business and walk inside.

Deputies spoke with the owner and showed him a picture of the suspect. The owner advised the man had applied for a job earlier in the day, became angry and crumpled up his application and threw it away. The owner checked the trash can but advised it had already been emptied and the application was no longer there.

Neilson was booked for suspicion of burglary of a business and destruction of property. Bail: $22,637.

— A 56-year-old Carson City man, Fred Knerium Levine, was arrested Jan. 20 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and four misdemeanors: possession of paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, DAS violation and obstruction.

According to the booking report, deputies responded to a gas station and convenience store in the 3700 block of North Carson Street. Deputies were advised a man was pulling a knife on people outside the store.

Deputies arrived and gave several verbal commands for the man to get on the ground. The man was detained where a methamphetamine pipe and a knife was found on his person. He was arrested for drug paraphernalia, obstruction and disorderly conduct. Video of the incident was made available to the investigating deputy.

During further search of the man officers located a loaded hypodermic needle and a knife. He was booked for the additional offenses. Bail: $5,291.

— A 62-year-old Carson City man, Anthony Nelson, was arrest early Saturday in the 300 block of East Adams Street for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and two misdemeanors: Obstructing and a bench warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court.

According to the booking report, deputies responded to the area and were advised by the reporting party that the suspect was not supposed to be on the Adams Street property and that he had broken into the residence that evening.

A deputy observed the suspect looking through a window at him and that the man hid behind the wall. The deputy attempted to make contact with the man through the window. The man did not respond to commands. A short time later, he was observed jumping over a bed and shut the window of the residence.

Deputies arriving on scene set up a permitter and also started verbal commands through a loud speaker. Deputies learned the residence the home was occupied by the suspect's mother. Deputies learned from the property owner that the man had made threats previously and he was in fear for his mother's safety, the report states. Deputies also learned the suspect had a warrant for his arrest.

After several attempts to make contact, deputies developed a plan to enter the residence and explained to the property owner who said he was receiving text messages from the suspect on his mother's phone. The property owner provided deputies with a key to the residence and advised if law enforcement had to breach the front door they could, the report states.

Deputies made several more attempts to have the man step outside of the residence but he failed to comply with the orders. The keys provided by the property owner did not work due to the deadbolt key hold being damaged, the report states.

Deputies used a breaching ram and breached the front door where the suspect was taken into custody. Officers located a glass vile and broken methamphetamine pipe on the bed. The man's mother was located safe where she advised she knew police were outside. The suspect was booked for obstructing, the bench warrant and possession of a controlled substance. Bail: $3,412.

During the jail's intake process the man was searched where sweatpants were discovered to have a security tag still attached to the garment. The tags are attached to clothing in an attempt to prevent theft. The man was also booked for suspicion of possession of stolen property. Bail: $2,990 cash for the warrant and $1,000 for possession of stolen property.
