National Weather Service upgrades to Winter Storm Warning for Carson City region
UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Reno has upgraded its Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning through Monday night for Carson City and surrounding counties.
Heavy snow continues around the region bringing an additional snow accumulations of at least 5 inches or more to the greater Reno, Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties. The weather service advises difficult travel conditions will continue through the day, impacting the evening commute before tapering off later Monday evening.

Another round of moderate to heavy snow continues throughout the Sierra, Carson City area and surrounding counties Monday morning, forcing chain and snow tire requirements, motorist delays and mounting snowfall.
Heaviest snow amounts are expected in the eastern Sierra from Lake Tahoe southward to Mammoth Lakes with respectable snow amounts already fallen across western Nevada. Several inches have already fallen around Carson City with up to 6 inches possible through the duration of this latest storm for the lower valleys and 8 inches or more for the foothill areas above 5,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
The Winter Weather Advisory is through 10 p.m. Monday night. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Lake Tahoe and Sierra through 10 p.m. Monday night.
Chain and snow tires are required from Highway 395 through Douglas County, I-580 through Washoe Valley into the greater Reno area, as well as Highway 50 from Fallon west to the Sierra as well as USA Parkway and State Route 341 over Geiger Grade. Chains are required over Highway 50 Spooner, I-80 over Donner Pass, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade and State Route 431 Mt. Rose Highway.
