Inspiring story of hope and optimism tonight on My Soul University Radio Hour on KNVC
You’ve probably never heard of Marc Weiner. The network news executive has never been in the public eye, at least not until a couple of years ago. That’s when he became the subject of a New York Times Square ad campaign. Marc needs a kidney, and went public with that pursuit when his wife’s advertising colleague offered him the giant billboard to tell the world.
This program was originally slated to air in December but had to be rescheduled. You can now hear Marc’s incredible story of resiliency and optimism on the My Soul University Radio Hour, Sunday, January 16 at 5 p.m. on 95.1 FM and streaming and on-demand at www.knvc.org. Hosted by Kitty McKay and moderated by Ken Farley, the show features the heartfelt storytelling of guests who have transformed their toughest of times into an expanded version of themselves. By exploring the ripples of impact that result from their difficult times, listeners discover greater peace, and even gratitude, for their own struggles.
Marc lost both of his kidneys to cancer in 2015. Since then, he has been on the transplant list. Upon seeing his billboard in Time’s Square seeking a donor, several people got tested. While they were not a match for him, two other people on the list matched and received their donation. “These two potential donors for me ended up donating to complete strangers, saved their lives, and brought more awareness to kidney donation”, he said. “While I wished of course they had been a match for me, I’m happy someone else was able to benefit.”
“I admire how resolute he seems, taking things as they come, moving ahead with the grace of being grateful for what he has, despite not yet getting a kidney,” Kitty said. “While so many of us would ask ‘why me,’ he doesn’t. He’s focused on living each day of his rich life of family, friends and rewarding work, while holding hope for himself and others.”
Marc adds, “I really admire the people who do donate. It is such a selfless thing to do. I truly hope it will be my turn soon.”
