Money matters: Carson City Supervisors to discuss funding projects for housing, a new fire station, and more
The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Board Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
Members of the public who wish only to view the meeting but do NOT plan to make public comment may watch the livestream of the Board of Supervisors meeting at https://www.carson.org/granicus and by clicking on “In progress” next to the meeting date, or by tuning in to cable channel 191.
The public may provide public comment in advance of a meeting by written submission to the following email address: publiccomment@carson.org. For inclusion or reference in the minutes of the meeting, your public comment must include your full name and be submitted via email by not later than 3:00 p.m. the day before the meeting. Public comment during a meeting is limited to three minutes per speaker.
— The appointment of two individuals to the Carson City Planning Commission will be discussed, each for a four-year term ending Jan. 1, 2027.
Supervisor Stacey Giomi is recommending Ellen Dechristopher, and Supervisor Curt Horton is recommending Vern Krahn.
— The Carson City Senior Center renovations project is moving forward, and the board will determine whether or not Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC is the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for an amount not to exceed $649,388.30.
The renovations project is for three areas of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center including the kitchen, restrooms located at the west end of the building, and the dining room. The project has received federal grant funding.
— A discussion and possible action will beheld regarding additional funding for the Ron Wood’s Center. The board is recommending the additional amount of $60,958 in de-obligated funds for a total amount of $280,958 for the Ron Wood Family Support for COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program.
Ron Wood previously requested for, and was approved for, $120,000 and $100,000 for 2022. The additional funding request is due to a continued need for rental assistance.
— The board will discuss the Carson City Housing Plan.
First, the board will discuss the appropriate of $445,777 of grant funding from the remaining $1.16 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds of 2021 for programs supporting the housing plan, and second, direction on the remaining funding.
— The board will discuss appropriating $500,000 from the Ambulance Fund and $2.4 million in ARPA funds to cover a potential funding shortfall for the proposed Carson City Fire Station with shared facilities for an Emergency Operations Center, Backup Dispatch Station, and Information Technology Offices.
The project has an estimated shortfall of $2.9 million.
— Discussion and possible action will be held regarding a contract with Paragon Partners Ltd. to provide services related to right of way acquisition for the E. William St. Complete Streets Project, and E. William Street Utility Underground Project.
— A discussion and possible action will be held regarding a contract with Sherman and Howard LLC. for a not to exceed amount of $84,000 in connection with a $5.55 million bond.
The bond will finance the William Street Corridor Capital Project.
