Carson City man with U.S. Marshals warrant jailed following early morning vehicle pursuit

A 32-year-old man was booked early Saturday for suspicion of felony eluding and a fugitive from justice warrant following an early morning vehicle pursuit, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Reuben William One Star, who refused to identify himself to deputies following the pursuit and investigation, was booked for the pursuit, and 7 alleged misdemeanor offenses. Early Monday morning he was positively identified as having a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued through the U.S. Marshals Office.

According to the booking report, Carson City Fire Department personnel advised to dispatch at around 5:22 a.m. they had observed a wrong-way driver heading southbound in the northbound lane of North Carson Street.

A CCSO patrol deputy located the suspect vehicle and activated their overhead emergency lights. The driver failed to yield. The deputy activated their siren, where the vehicle continued driving, going straight through the intersection at North Roop and East Winnie Lane and driving onto a dirt path. The driver then reversed the vehicle from the dirt path and continued driving north on Roop Street, driving over the double-yellow centerline roadway marking, the report states.

The vehicle continued north on Roop Street, then westbound onto Hot Springs Road, where the deputy paced the driver going 65 mph in a marked 35 mph zone. The vehicle then continued onto Carson Street, driving southbound in the northbound travel lane. The vehicle returned eastbound onto Winnie Lane, then turned southbound onto Roop. Other officers joined the pursuit, the report states.

The vehicle made an abrupt U-turn, returning to westbound Winnie Lane. The vehicle then continued, went to Carson Street and turned southbound on Division Street, reaching speeds of 50 mph in a marked 25 mph zone. The vehicle turned eastbound onto Bath Street then to Division Street until turning eastbound onto Spear Street.

The vehicle continued and turned southbound on Carson Street and then eastbound onto Telegraph Street and continued onto northbound Roop Street. The vehicle then went eastbound on Robinson Street then to Palo Verde Drive. The vehicle continued, then going southbound onto Richmond Avenue, and then onto King Street. The driver parked in a driveway on King Street, where the suspect fled on foot into a backyard property. Deputies stopped the man, after deploying tasers. He was taken into custody at 5:32 a.m.

The suspect would not identify himself to deputies, saying officers would have to work for it, the arrest report states. The suspect complained of injuries from what he said was a prior vehicle crash and was taken to the hospital to get checked out. At the hospital he was uncooperative and verbally combative with both Carson City Fire Department and hospital medical staff. A warrant was requested to seize a blood draw sample and was approved by a Carson City judge, the report states.

Later the man would tell a deputy that he got into an argument with a girlfriend, admitted to drinking and taking her vehicle, resulting in the vehicle pursuit and subsequent booking offenses. Besides the felony eluding offense, One Star was also booked for suspicion of the following misdemeanor offenses: failure to drive on the right side of the road, basic speed, 21-plus over the limit, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, no driver's license in possession, DUI and obstructing, resisting.

He was being held without bail due to the U.S. Marshals Office warrant for aggravated assault that was issued out of South Dakota. The local bail is listed at $20,000 for the suspected eluding offense.
