Carson City man takes snowplow, tequila for joyride at airport
A 41-year-old man was arrested New Year's Day after he allegedly took a relative's truck, went to the Carson City Airport where he then got into a snowplow, driving it on the airfield where it became stuck, according to a sheriff's office booking report.
The Carson City man was arrested for gross misdemeanor suspicion of unlawful taking of a vehicle and trespassing.
According to the arrest report, at around 7:30 a.m., Jan. 1, dispatch alerted the Carson City Sheriff's Office of the theft of a gray Ford F-150. They were also alerted that a snowplow had been taken from the airport.
Deputies were advised of the suspect involved and detained him at the scene. The F-150 truck was located in the training yard of the Carson City Fire Department at the northwest corner of the yard. It was stuck in the mud and ran into the gate that exits Station 52 onto the airport property, according to the report.
Deputies investigating the incident were advised by airport officials that its snowplow had been moved and was stuck on the airfield. Officers reviewed video footage to gather evidence.
Officers located the snowplow that was stuck on the airfield and took photos. Inside the snowplow were numerous pieces of military style clothing, an open bottle of tequila on the floorboard and a metal clipboard that had the suspect's name written in blue ink, the report states. Airport officials advised the clipboard didn't belong to any employee at the airport.
The suspect was arrested and taken to jail where he was read his Miranda warning. He was asked if he remembered driving the snowplow at the airport. The man said no. He was asked if he had taken or smoked any drugs. The suspect advised he drank from an unknown bottle of alcohol he said he lost. He described the bottle as gold. He was asked again if he remembered driving the snowplow and he advised no, the report states. The arresting deputy submitted a lab request to have the tequila bottle tested for fingerprints.
The man was booked into Carson City Jail for suspicion of unlawful taking of a vehicle, a gross misdemeanor, and trespassing. Bail: $2,742.
