Reno Jazz Orchestra presents Coomler Conducts!
Don’t miss an evening of classic big band music with the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) directed by Doug Coomler.
Plan on two great nights in Midtown Reno Nov. 16-17 as the 17-piece RJO will present some of your favorite big band sounds of yesteryear by Sammy Nestico, who is best known for his arrangements for the Count Basie orchestra, and other legendary jazz musicians, composers, and educators Stan Kenton, Don Menza, Thad Jones and many others.
Doug Coomler has an accomplished career that includes performances with some of the finest musicians and singers in America.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, and while in Reno worked as a musician, performing in many Broadway-style shows such as Grease, Smokey Joe's Café, Jersey Nights, The Rat Pack and others.
Coomler has worked with many renowned musicians and comedians, including The Temptations, The Four Tops, Johnny Mathis, The Supremes, Frank Sinatra, Bob Newhart and many more.
Today, he is a faculty member at the University of Nevada Reno, owns a private teaching studio, is the Director of the Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, and member of the RJO band’s saxophone ensemble.
