House candidate Patricia Ackerman to speak at Monday's Carson City Democratic tele-luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Patricia Ackerman, Democratic candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District (CD-2). An Emerge Nevada graduate, Patricia ran an aggressive Assembly campaign against District 39 Republican Jim Wheeler in 2018.
Building on that heightened public profile, Ackerman won the CD-2 nomination with an impressive 49 percent of the vote in a six-way race, besting her nearest rival by 26 percentage points. She now faces incumbent Republican Mark Amodei in the November 3rd general election, along with one third party and one independent candidate.
Having grown up the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who had to start their lives over upon arrival in the US, Patricia learned self-confidence and self-reliance at an early age, qualities that have served her well throughout her remarkably adventurous life. Along the way, she gained expertise in the fields of interior landscaping, mountaineering, stage and screen acting, even undercover assignments inside Russia for the FBI. She and her husband Todd, a retired math teacher, moved to Minden in 2002, where they have followed sustainable lifestyle practices while exploring nearby mountains ranges.
Since winning the primary, Patricia has earned numerous high-profile endorsements, including former Senator Harry Reid, the Sierra Club, the Nevada Veterans Association, the National Organization for Women, the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.
Patricia lists her top priorities as more accessible and affordable rural health care, a smarter funding mechanisms for public education, increased use of renewable energy, and action to stop climate change. She describes herself as empathetic, a critical thinker, an intense listener and a problem solver.
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, Oct. 19, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to the restricted availability of in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for these Zoom links can email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
