James Hammel Bean (September 25, 1934 - September 25, 2014)
After valiantly fighting a long-time battle with Alzheimer’s, James Hammel (Jim) Bean, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2014 in Carson City, NV supported by his loving family. Autumn Funerals and Cremations is in charge of the final arrangements. Inturnment will be at No NV Veterans Mem Cem, Fernley NV with full military honors on October 02, 2014 at 11:am.
Jim attended Huntington Beach HS and received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Cal State Fullerton and a Master’s from UNR in Reno. He served in the US Air Force as an Intelligence Specialist from 1953-1957 and was stationed in Texas, Maine, Greenland & North Africa. Jim’s career included teaching positions in CA & Carson City, State of NV Curriculum Director for Elementary and Secondary Education and founding Director & Board Member of the Grace Dangberg (Educational) Foundation.
In 1984, Jim met the “love of his life”- Susan Elaine Worley and they were married at Lake Tahoe in 1991.
In addition to his family and education, Jim’s passion in life was flying. He was a private pilot and owned several different planes during his life. Jim & Susan loved to travel & shared great adventures together- first in his private plane and later by taking many ocean cruises with family & friends.
During his life, Jim lived in Huntington Beach, CA and Yerington & Carson City, NV. He was an active supporter of Northern NV where he served as past commander of the Carson City Sheriff’s Aero Squadron, an advocate for the NV Law-Related Education Program and a member of the NV State PTA. He was also active on the Carson City Democratic Central Committee.
Jim is survived by wife Susan, daughter Jennifer Bean-Blake (Gary), son James Wayne Bean (Jeanette), son Gordon John Bean (Angela), son Allen Glen Bean and grandchildren Allicia, Jacob, Andrew, Noah & Bryan.
