Heroes Remembered Blood Drive to be held at the Atlantis on 9/11
Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is partnering with Vitalant for a blood drive honoring the heroes who lost their lives 22 years ago on 9/11. A blood mobile will be on site Monday, September 11 in the west parking lot of the Atlantis from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for anyone that would like to donate.
“In the aftermath of 9/11, patriotic blood donors rolled up their sleeves to help their fellow Americans in need,” said Scott Edward, Vitalant senior donor recruitment manager. “We’re asking the northern Nevada community to help us once again. It’s important to remember just one donation can save up to three lives.”
Vitalant is welcoming more blood donors willing to help save lives under the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) updated eligibility guidelines. For the first time in decades, blood donor eligibility is evaluated independent of gender or sexual orientation while maintaining the safety of the blood supply.
More blood donors are needed every day, especially as Vitalant experiences an ongoing summer blood shortage with fewer donors replenishing what’s available for patients. Only about 3% of the U.S. population donates, but a patient in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds.
Donors can register for the Heroes Remembered Blood Drive at www.vitalant.org (search for code 911Heroes) or they can call 775-329-6451. Walk-ins will also be welcome.
All donors will receive an American flag pin, a Vitalant t-shirt and a chance to win an Atlantis Staycation Package, which includes a one-night stay and a $100 dining certificate.
