Carson City Lions Club accepting entries for peace poster contest
The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce the Lions International Peace Poster Contest is now open for local entries.
The Peace Poster Contest is an international contest that encourages children, ages 11 to 13, to creatively express what peace means to them. The 2021-2022 contest theme is “We Are All Connected.”
The contest winner at the local level will receive a $50 stipend and will move up to the District level for further competition. The International Grand Prize Winner receives a trip to an award ceremony where he/she will receive $5,000 and an award. 23 merit award winners will also be selected and each will receive $500.
The deadline for entries is September 30, 2021 at 5 p.m. Entries may be dropped off at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 North Carson Street, or the Boys and Girls Club, 1870 Russell Way, Carson City.
Children who will be 11, 12, or 13 years old by November 15th are encouraged to sign up for the contest. Sign up sheets have been distributed to art teachers in Carson City School District elementary and middle schools, as well as the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada and the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. Children who sign up will be given a flyer with contest rules and conditions.
In conjunction with the contest, the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada will sponsor “Open Studios” in the art room at the Museum on September 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. where children may work on their Peace Poster entries.
The Museum will waive entrance fees for children who participate in the Open Studios, and it will make available a limited amount of supplies to children who need them. An art teacher will also be available to show children how to use art supplies. Children do not need to attend an Open Studio in order to compete in the contest.
