Re-Elect Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell
Local voters must bring back one of the most productive local politicians we’ve had in Carson City over the past 10 years, Mayor Lori Bagwell. Between her time in office on the Board of Supervisors and her time as Carson City’s Mayor, Lori Bagwell has done as much or more for this city than anybody else running for local office. This is especially true when comparing her record in office to her opponent, Jim Shirk, who could not get re-elected to the Board of Supervisors after one 4-year term. Lori has worked tirelessly to fund local road work projects, provide affordable housing for low-income workers, effectively manage city growth, and plan for the future.
A few vociferous people believe Lori hasn’t done much to help improve local roads. This simply is not true! For instance, did you know that Lori and our previous Mayor, Bob Crowell, were responsible for flying to Washington DC and getting federal transportation grants approved for Carson City’s roads? Lori went on this trip to DC at her own expense. Not many people know that, nor do they know that Jim Shirk actually voted against road funding during his time on the Board of Supervisors. The roads issue has been 20-30 years in the making, and there are no easy answers to the road issues. It’s going to be up to the voters for any quick fixes – unless you want to do without local law enforcement, the fire department, safe parks and trails, or even clean water and waste management.
Mayor Bagwell and the Board of Supervisors have been following a growth management plan for years which addresses Carson City’s future growth needs. While some say growth has been out of control, the fact is Carson City’s population has only grown by approximately 3700 people over the past 20 years (2003 official population was 55,220, 2023 population was 58,923). That’s approximately 6% growth over 20 years. We will get to 60,000 people shortly, and, as proactive as Mayor Bagwell is, she has already planned for and budgeted funds for future court growth and water requirements.
Even though being the Mayor is a busy full-time job, Lori also finds time to serve Carson City in other ways. She served on the board of F.I.S.H., she’s the VFW auxiliary President, a Daughters of the American Revolution member, and a member of the Rotary Club. What does Jim Shirk do with his time to serve Carson City?
In case you’re a hunter or gun enthusiast, Carson City has one of the best gun ranges in the entire Northern Nevada region because of Lori Bagwell.
