Fall 2024 openings for AmeriCorps financial literacy program in Lyon County

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) is currently recruiting for part time and full time AmeriCorps members for the 2024-2025 term.
AmeriCorps members will make a difference in Nevada communities by teaching financial literacy to children, teens and adults. Members will offer conveniently located classes on topics such as banking, budgeting, saving, borrowing, credit and investment. AmeriCorps is a national program that connects individuals and organizations to help communities tackle challenges and improve lives and communities.
“We hope service-minded people will apply to AmeriCorps and join our team to make a difference,” said Healthy Communities’ AmeriCorps Program Director, Jeff Sater. Members will be given all training needed to learn about and then teach financial literacy skills, under the supervision of HCC and HCC AmeriCorps’ host sites.
Full time AmeriCorps members will serve approximately 34 hours per week (average) with a total living allowance of $22,600 for serving from September 2, 2024 to August 17, 2025. Full time members can earn an Educational Award of $6,895 after completing a full term of service.
Part time members will serve approximately 18 hours per week with a total living allowance of $11,000 plus an Education Award of $3,448 when they complete their service.
HCC’s new AmeriCorps’ Literacy in Financial Thinking (LIFT) program places AmeriCorps members at host sites such as HCC food pantries in Dayton, Silver Springs and Dayton to perform educational service that strengthens communities in the areas of Literacy in Financial Thinking.
Members will receive training related to their service activities as well as personal and professional development, a living allowance, and an education award for future higher education or to pay off existing higher-education debts.
Specific duties include:
• Completing training modules of the Money Smart curriculum.
• Creating a training schedule for financial literacy courses for a host site population and using pre and post surveys to measure results.
• Completing CPR/ first aid training and complete Nevada Community Health Worker training.
• Participating in 1-on-1 training with the HCC AmeriCorps Program Director.
• Participating in bi-monthly 1-on-1 training with the HCC AmeriCorps Program Director.
• Participating in Teams meetings with the entire group of AmeriCorps LIFT members.
• Completing HIPPA, FERPA Civil rights and Non-Discrimination training.
Preferred skills include writing skills; the ability to work as part of a team and individually; and interest in financial literacy. A background or interest in teaching is a plus.
