Celebrate Carson City's Trails on National Trails Day
The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, in collaboration with Muscle powered, the Greenhouse Project, and Carson Tahoe Health, will host a National Trails Day celebration on Saturday, June 5, 9 a.m. at the Foothill Trailhead, 1535 Medical Parkway (behind the CTH Cancer Center and next to the Foothill Garden).
During this challenging past year, many people sought the refuge, solace, and health benefits of our local trails. Come join our Mayor and other VIP’s as we now celebrate Carson City’s trails!
Muscle Powered and other volunteers will be performing needed trail maintenance on the Foothill Trail and the V&T Trail.
The public is invited to join our program’s other activities. June is Pollinator Month, and there will be a tour of the Greenhouse Project, Pollinator Garden, the Bee Hotel, and there will be an informational "Bee Booth."
Naturalists will lead two groups of participants on an interpretive hike up the Foothill Trail through Rose Canyon to the historic Virginia & Truckee RR Grade where a local historian will discuss history of the V&T Railroad. The hike is about one mile round-trip, on fairly steep terrain, and the trail rated as BLUE (more difficult) on the IMBA rating system. Participants should plan to arrive at least a few minutes before 9:00AM.
