Cub Scout Pack 837 1st annual Raingutter Regatta
AAAARRGGHH Me Mateys! The Cub Scouts of Pack 837 were ready to sail the seas with their balsa wood boats for the first annual Raingutter Regatta on Saturday, April 28th, 2012. A Raingutter Regatta is where a Cub Scout blows a boat he made down a “track” which is a rain gutter filled with water. Our Captain (Cubmaster) Debra Gibbons officiated over the heats. Yet, in the end, there were no winners or losers. This was a lesson in sportsmanship, teamwork, and good manners. The boys learned how to line up for the heats and to cheer on their fellow scouts, but to also give encouragement to the scouts who did not perform that well. Because this was the first Regatta, the majority of the Pack tried to figure out how to do their boat on their own (with their parent’s help of course). Some of the boats performed well, and some of the boats did not. Every scout came out a winner. Each received a cool patch and a “medallion” of a pirate skull on an anchor. It was a great way to spend a wonderful spring day.
