The River in the Desert: Wilson Canyon
A short cinematic video I put together the other day. I always thought Wilson Canyon was one of most beautiful areas we have and I think lots of folks don't actually get to see it end to end from the air.
Go here to watch the video.
Wilson Canyon is a gorge cut by the Walker River through a series of volcanic cliffs. The canyon is 13 miles west of Yerington, along Nevada State Route 208. The canyon runs through the Singatse Range in Lyon County, where the Walker River flows northeast into the Mason Valley.
The canyon was named after "Uncle Billy Wilson" who was a miner and rancher and for whom the Wilson Mining District is also named, according to the Wikipedia entry. The Nevada Copper Belt Railroad ran through Wilson Canyon; the track laid to the canyon was completed shortly before Uncle Billy Wilson's death.
How did I do it? Using drone technology. In fact 2 different drones with the same cameras on them. A few hours of shooting video and many more hours in the editing room. I always thought Wilson Canyon was one of most beautiful areas we have and I think lots of folks don't get to actually see.
Hopefully you will enjoy my video and watch for more in the future. See the video below or go here.
