Carson River Coalition's 'Watershed Wednesdays' looks at climate action, highlights regenerative agriculture
CARSON CITY — In the fourth session of the Carson River Coalition’s Watershed Wednesdays’ forum, speakers will tackle one of the big issues facing rural and urban communities alike: Climate Change.
Presentations on March 24 will explore how changing climate patterns are affecting weather and water in the Carson River Watershed, underscoring strategies and responses Nevada’s food producers are implementing to create more resilient communities. This session will consider regenerative agriculture as an approach for farms and ranches to better resist the economic and environmental effects of a changing climate, while improving the overall health of the Carson River Watershed.
Scientists at the forefront of climatology and Nevada’s climate strategy will present a well-rounded understanding of the specific impacts Nevada faces today and into the future. Presentations will consider the multifaceted and coordinated response that is necessary to combat climate change. Methods to both reduce carbon emissions, and to adapt to future climate patterns will be critical for our future. Regenerative Agriculture will take the spotlight as an action we can take in the Carson River Watershed to advance both these goals.
Ray Archuleta, a farmer and soil scientist who brought regenerative agriculture to the national stage in the 2020 documentary Kiss the Ground, will give an overview of the topic and the incredible benefits of these farming practices.
Viewers will receive practical accounts about these benefits from a local NRCS soil scientist and agricultural producers from the Carson Valley and Fallon who practice regenerative agriculture in our Watershed.
This Watershed Wednesdays' session will be a resource for producers interested in learning more about regenerative agricultural practices, citizens wondering how climate change may affect them, and everyone with an interest in building a more resilient community.
