Obituary: Una Irene Gast, April 6, 1922 to February 27, 2016
Una Irene Gast passed away February 27th in her home in Carson City. She was born on April 6th, 1922 in Caribou Maine. She spent the first part of her life in Maine and New England. Una moved to Chicago and Detroit and worked for the auto industry.
Una moved to the West with her Husband Raymond A. Gast in the 1960's. She was a secretary for the aerospace industry. She worked at Lockheed in Sunnyvale California for most her life. In her 70's Una "retired" and went to law school obtaining her paralegal degree. She also took up her life long dream to paint. Una loved music and played piano.
She had a wonderful and happy life with family and friends. The last years of her life were spent with her Son Bruce Gast and his Wife Cameron Tovar in Carson City. Una's passing although anticipated was a shock as she was getting stronger after serious illness. She will forever be in the hearts of those who were close to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond A. Gast, her sister Mavis Surma passed in 2004. Mavis moved to the Bay Area and she and Una were close all their lives. Una leaves behind two sons, Bruce of Carson City, NV, and Douglas located in Montana. Una had 5 grandchildren who remain in the Bay Area. Una also had an extended family with Raymond's two sons Kenneth and Nelson Gast.
Una was one month shy of her 94th birthday. She outlived most of her lifelong friends. Memorial prayers will be given at St. Josephs Catholic Church, the church she attended for more than 30 years in Cupertino, California during March of this year.
