The University Women’s Club will host guest speaker, Judy Schumer, on Saturday, Oct. 14, 1:30 p.m., at the Douglas County Community Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

Training sessions for volunteers will be held by Night Off the Streets, Inc., warming center on Oct. 17 and again on Oct. 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

For the seventh year, NOTS will provide a place for those without homes to sleep during the winter nights from Nov. 1 through March 31. A different church in Carson City hosts the warming shelter each month. All community members are welcome to serve as volunteers.

Mile High Jazz Band presents "October Jazz at Gina's," an evening of big-band music with singer Jakki Ford, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Gina's Good Life Music & Lounge, 507 N. Carson Street, inside the Carson Nugget.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, Valhalla Tahoe presents a Chautauqua performance of the father of the Los Angeles Aqueduct and the despot of the Eastern Sierra, William Mulholland.

A weekend of fall events are lined up at Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City, beginning Friday and Saturday with an old fashioned apple cider press available for anyone with apples, plus a pumpkin growing contest and free pesticide waste collection on Saturday.

The entire family will enjoy this spirited collection of themed steam train rides on the Virginia Truckee Railroad. The Pumpkin Patch train will be powered by Steam Engine No. 29 and feature a stop at the Gold Hill Depot Pumpkin Patch.

Earlier this month, Carson High School’s soil judging team took first place at the statewide competition in Ely, taking them to nationals. Soil judging is a competition where teams compete to determine the quality, water retention, classification, and consistency of the soil of a 5-foot deep hole.

Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine will be the featured speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend.

The meeting takes place Tuesday, October 10th, at noon, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
