It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of: Richard Ray Mason.

Carson City - Richard Ray Mason (85) passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, Sharlene Mason, and his devoted family. Richard is survived by his wife, Sharlene, and their four children: Melinda (Mason) Cameron, Melaine Mason, Greg Mason, and Michon (Mason) Metzger. He also leaves behind a legacy cherished by numerous grandchildren and a great-grandchild who brought him immense joy throughout his life.

Dennis Jone’s feet are firmly rooted in the past, yet his heart and soul are connected to the present. He writes songs that seamlessly blend the best of both worlds, presenting a unique and contemporary style of American rock and blues. And he isn’t afraid to tackle the controversial issues of today. Dennis has written songs for other notable artists as well, including Guitar Shorty.

The Nevada State Museum is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the launching of the U.S.S. Nevada (BB-36) battleship this month and historic Coin Press No. 1 will be minting the U.S.S. Nevada commemorative medallion in honor of the storied and distinguished U.S. Navy vessel every Saturday in July.

The annual Fourth of July Americana Celebration will be happening in Genoa again this year, bringing a classic tradition to Mormon State Park.

Each year, attendees beat the heat beneath the shade trees at the park while listening to live music, watching the kids play and more.

The June primary elections are over. Nominees have been picked, and a few non-partisan races decided. Turnout was relatively low, though not at all outside the norm. In Lyon County, 18.7% of registered voters participated; 32.5 % in Douglas County.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michael Walker, who has held the District 5 seat on the Carson City School Board for the past eight years. He was named board president in 2020, and in 2024 became board clerk. He has served on several committees, and as a Director on the Nevada Association of School Boards.
