Meg Ryan, Kevin Kline in "French Kiss"
If you’re hankering for a good old romantic comedy movie, check out "French Kiss" a the Carson library. It stars Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline in a romp that chases around France after Kate’s fiancee Charlie (Meg and Timothy Hutton) calls her from France to break off their engagement because he has met his "goddess" (Sudan Anbeth delightful French dish).
Kate, who flunked out of her phobia aversion to flying, girds and take off for Paris to win back her man.
On the plane she sits next to a mustached Frenchman named Luc (Kevin Kline) who engages her in conversation about phobias and sex. On landing he sneaks a stolen diamond bracelet into her purse, figuring she’ll never get searched as he would.
After problems in Paris where Kate’s baggage is stolen (along with the necklace) she and Luc head for Cannes where Charlie is staying with his French doll, preparing to wed.
This is a romantic romp, and Meg is back in form as she was in "When Harry Met Sally." She is irresistible as she mugs, rolls her eyes and uses her body language to tell her story. She makes the whole thing work and even becomes eye candy herself in a chic French dress. That is not to say that Kline is a nobody; he is a flop as a crook but a winner as a eventual suitor.
A 1995 movie, directed by Lawrence Kasdan and written by Adam Brooks, it’s rated PG-13 and runs 111 minutes.
Meg, where are you these days when we all need a good giggle?
