Reno, Nevada-based gastroenterologist, Dr. Dennis Yamamoto, met his wife, Mary (Oberski) Yamamoto, during her work-study shift at a dining hall at Michigan State University in 1970. Mary and Dr. Yamamoto began dating as they completed their studies — hers in social work and his in medicine — before they married in 1973 and eventually started a family welcoming twin children and later, four grandsons.

Representatives from the Southwest Gas Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the Carson City Schools Foundation at the June 25 School Board meeting. The money was given to support the Jump Start College Program at Carson High School.

Limited remaining seats for a kid’s sculpting and painting class! Participants ages 5-13 are welcome with any range of artistic background. This is a six-day, three week class from 5-6PM every Tuesday and Thursday where students will design, paint, and decorate their own clay monsters to bring home on their sixth day. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of: Richard Ray Mason.

Carson City - Richard Ray Mason (85) passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, Sharlene Mason, and his devoted family. Richard is survived by his wife, Sharlene, and their four children: Melinda (Mason) Cameron, Melaine Mason, Greg Mason, and Michon (Mason) Metzger. He also leaves behind a legacy cherished by numerous grandchildren and a great-grandchild who brought him immense joy throughout his life.

A brushfire that occurred in Dayton Friday evening is currently in the mop up phase.

The fire which was reported just south east of Highway 50 is estimated to have burned around two to three acres and no structures were in danger.

Douglas County is pleased to announce the successful implementation of a new parking program at its beaches during the 4th of July holiday.

The July 4th celebration drew thousands to the Stateline, Zephyr Cove, Nevada area and its beaches.

In December of last year Carson City Moose Lodge #2709 donated three dozen Tommy Moose toys to the Carson Tahoe Hospital Emergency Department.

These were so well received by the children in the ER that the call went out that more were needed. Last week Carson Moose Lodge delivered four more dozen.

Over 100 volunteers showed up at Zephyr Shoals this morning for the annual post-July 4 cleanup. The increase in volunteers is due entirely to the horrors of last year’s cleanup during which volunteers and the League to Save Lake Tahoe cleaned up over 6,000 pounds of trash alone.
