Pioneer Academy senior Keegan Castberg continues to excel despite current and past hardships. Though COVID 19 continues to change what “normal” is and challenges our students to succeed under ever changing rules, Keegan has learned how push through the difficult times.

Carson High School (CHS) crowned Parsa Hadjighasemi and Caydee Farnworth as the 2021 Homecoming King and Queen. A short coronation ceremony was held on the football field during halftime of Friday’s matchup against the McQueen High School Lancers.

Carson High School is currently celebrating the school’s 150th anniversary with events for Homecoming week, including “Wednesday Night Live,” a local, student-led version of Saturday Night Live.

CVS Health today announced that, following approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based on guidance from the organization’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, select CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations are now offering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot to eligible populations beginning today, Friday, September 24, including 79 locations in Nevada.

At 12:45 p.m., a three-vehicle crash was reported in the area near Carson Street and College Parkway.

First responders are enroute to the scene. Injuries are unknown.

Motorists should seek alternate routes or use caution in the area.

A new meat processing facility aimed towards local, small-scale ranchers is under review, and will be appearing before the Carson City Planning Commission on Sept. 29 to review its proposal.

The facility, if approved, will be located in the industrial area near Detroit Road, located between Highway 50 and Morgan Mill Road.

On Thursday, NV Energy issued an alert to customers stating that an increase of scam calls and emails were being reported, targeting NV Energy customers by falsely representing themselves as NV Energy.

Sierra Lutheran High School senior Caleb Pots has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 12 deaths, 619 new cases, and 178 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 18,477, with 14,339 recoveries and 280 deaths; 3,858 cases remain active.

The annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down, scheduled for Friday, has been canceled due to COVID concerns. However homeless veterans will receive the care and support they have earned, according to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board approved 16 companies Thursday that will receive $46 million in tax abatements. In return these companies are required to create 1,432 jobs at an hourly wage of $31.83 in the next two years.

Gardnerville-based Carson Valley Meats will appear before the Carson City Growth Management and Planning Commission Wednesday, Sept. 29, to review its proposal for a meat processing facility to be located off of Brick Road in Carson City.

CARSON CITY — Nevada leaders are excited to announce the U.S. Economic Development Administration is providing a $160,000 grant to the Nevada-based Great Basin Institute to establish the nation’s first-ever professional recreation trail building school in Ely, Nevada.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Sept. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert "Bob" Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Items up for discussion at the school board include a restorative discipline plan, policy changes and the search for a new superintendent.

A 56-year-old Dayton man was arrested Wednesday for two warrants, one alleging sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, and the other alleging battery with intent to commit sexual assault, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The 2nd annual Raise the Roof to Ease Poverty is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9. The Carson City Host Lions Club is encouraging children ages 11 to 13 to showcase their talent in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The 2021-2022 contest theme is “We Are All Connected,” and is designed to be a creative way for children to express their visions of peace

Street Vibrations Motorcycle Festival returns to Northern Nevada beginning Thursday and extending through the weekend, with events lined up in Carson City, Virginia City, Reno and at Lake Tahoe.

CARSON CITY — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded 47 Emergency Housing Vouchers to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority to assist unsheltered rural Nevadans with housing.

Unemployment in Carson City fell to 4.6 percent in August from 5.3 percent in July, according figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

UPDATE 4:36PM: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday afternoon that the marijuana grow that was shut down Monday was the result of warrants that followed a lengthy investigation involving numerous Chinese nationals believed to be associated with organized crime.

On Monday, September 20, 2021 at approximately 4:13 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers stopped a white 2005 Pontiac G6 sedan that matched the description from an armed robbery that was reported eight minutes earlier at Best Buy in Carson City. The vehicle stopped just west of I-580 on Neil Road in Reno.

A blast of sweet treats, arts and early fall colors arrive in Douglas County this weekend with the 102nd Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire.

A tradition that goes back to 1919, the Genoa Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire offers more than 300 juried arts and crafts booths, Genoa's famous candy, a renowned dinner and dance, festival food vendors, children's games and family fun that annually draws thousands to the town, also known to be Nevada's first settlement.

The 2021-2022 fishing season will begin on Friday, Oct. 1 at Pyramid Lake, according to a press release by Tribe Chairwoman Janet Davis.
