Santa and the Grinch will arrive on a red firetruck courtesy of Central Lyon County Fire Protection District and they will be joined by the Dayton High School cheerleading squad.

Registration is underway for Carson City's ultimate family fitness event and healthy warmup before Thanksgiving family feasts with the annual 5K and 8K Turkey Trot walk/run and the Gobble Wobble Kids Fun Run at the Nevada Governor's Mansion.

On November 19, 2021, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to 15 vehicle burglaries in Minden, Gardnerville, and Topaz area.

This also included three stolen vehicles from this area. The 3 vehicles were recovered locally and returned to their owners.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a runaway juvenile.    

Isaiah was not at school when his mother attempted to pick him up on Friday, November 5, 2021 and was missing until Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 7:30 am when he returned home.  

Isaiah ran away from home again before his mother could call the Sheriff’s Office.  

Isaiah does not have any medical problems and is not considered at risk.

The annual Santa Train has announced its full steam ahead for its 37th year bringing Christmas joy to the community.

Pulled by the vintage Virginia and Truckee No. 25 steam engine, the Santa Train will begin Dec. 4 and will continue for the first three weekends in December.

Donor Network West hosted a special event to honor the legacy of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hammond with the unveiling of a memorial “floragraph” on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Renown Regional Medical Center. Made entirely out of organic materials, Lizzy’s floragraph will be featured on the Donate Life float at the 133rd Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2022 in Pasadena, Calif.

During the evening of November 18, 2021 into the morning of November 19th, 2021, there were 12 vehicle burglaries and three stolen vehicles in the Gardnerville/Minden/Topaz area.

Little Discoveries Early Learning Center of Minden has announced they have acquired Little Feet Daycare of Carson City, NV. The new location will be branded Small Wonders Early Learning Center, the original name of the Singer family company.

Leonard Weinberg, Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada-Reno will speak via Zoom at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Weinberg has served as a senior fellow at the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City and at the National Security Studies Center at the University of Haifa in Israel. His specialist research areas include right wing violence, neo-fascism and conspiracy theories.

The Carson City School District would like to share special thanks to Dolan Auto Group for donating $50,000 to schools throughout Carson City. The money was awarded as part of the “Dolan Class Project,” a community benefit program the dealership hosts each year.

Carson City schools raked in the winnings from the competition with 8 out of the 10 total Carson City schools earning funding. In total, nine winners were awarded including the grand prize.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to appropriate $209,586 in grant funds of the approved $1.3 million to five local nonprofits.

However, Carson City Supervisor Maurice White argued the money should be "given back" to the federal government instead of being dispersed to local non-profits because it is "an extension of critical race theory."

Nevada added 11,200 jobs in October as the state continues to recover from the COVID pandemic. Employment remains below typical levels, but is up 96,700 jobs since October 2020, an annual increase of 7.6 percent, according to figures released Thursday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

The 1,500 Christmas tree permits offered this year by the Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit were sold out by 9:15 a.m., Wednesday morning, just 75 minutes after they went up for grabs. The good news is Christmas tree permits remain available elsewhere, including on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Carson City District of the Bureau of Land Management.

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced Wednesday that she helped secure $9,300,000 in Department of Transportation (DOT) funding for Carson City’s East William Street project. This funding will help improve the safety and accessibility of the road while also promoting new investments in small businesses throughout downtown Carson City.
