The Nevada Highway Patrol sent this update on the fatal accident this morning involving two vehicles near Fallon. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family members.

"This morning, at approximately 7:05 a.m., troopers from the NHP-Fallon District were dispatched to an automobile accident on Highway 50 near mile marker 32, approximately 8 miles east of Fallon.

One person is dead after an accident this morning eight miles east of Fallon on Highway 50.
A male driver was killed in the two-vehicle accident and a female sustained injuries and was transported to Bannar Churchill Memorial Hospital, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Her condition is unknown at this time. Eastbound traffic was closed temporarily because of the accident, which was reported shortly after 7 this morning.

With dry thunderstorms expected to roll into the region by Wednesday, a Fire Weather Watch was issued at 5:44 this morning for Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe and eastern Lyon counties. Many teens looking for a jobs face the added challenge of finding work in during a recession.

Teen jobs have gone down since the mid 2000s, because more people — including out of work adults — are competing for the same jobs that traditionally went to teenagers.

Older workers are now commonly found working as grocery store baggers, fast food workers, amusement park staff, etc. Now that school is out more teens are looking for summer jobs.

Sen. Harry Reid turned up in the Capital City on this Fourth of July holiday, spending about an hour at the annual RSVP Carnival at Mills Park in Carson City.

A class on how to make a bird feeder out of recycled plastic will be offered by Nevada State Parks at Washoe Lake on July 10 beginning at 10 a.m.
Park staff will teach anyone how to decorate bird feeders out of recycled plastic bottles. The program is suitable for ages 5 to adult and all materials will be provided.
In honor of Nevada State Parks 75th anniversary, all children will receive a 75th anniversary memorabilia prize.

There was a disturbance near the Legislature Building Saturday afternoon in Carson City. A woman who was apparently angry at some political signs, allegedly threw rocks at three demonstrators.

The news that came across the scanner this July 3 afternoon was that there was a fight involving "protesters" in front of the Legislative Building. Given the political climate these days, it was worth following up.

For those guys who liked their morning coffee with a little spice, you are going to have to find another way to get your thrills.

Just drove by Raley's Center this evening and noticed that Java Girls is no more. The signs have been changed to V&T Coffee Company. Guess the scantily clad barista thing didn't pan out.

An abandoned Jeep Cherokee east of the Koontz Lane water tank on BLM land was found burning early this morning, igniting a 10 foot by 10 foot area of sage and cheat grass before firefighters doused the flames.
The fire, reported to dispatch by the owner at about 1 a.m., was difficult to get to logistically, but firefighters were able to knock it down before it spread, said Carson City Batallion Chief Bob Charles. A tow truck with a flatbed was called in early this morning to remove the vehicle from the rugged terrain.
