A Dayton man has been identified as the driver of a fatal accident that happened on Friday on Highway 50 in Mound House near the Carson City and Lyon County line.

Steven Milnor Gonzales, 62, died Friday from injuries sustained from the accident after being flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Underdog Democratic candidate for governor Rory Reid took the opportunity at a first debate today with leading GOP candidate Brian Sandoval to challenge his opponent’s commitment to spending on public education.

An 25-year-old Carson City man and an 18-year-old woman face multiple felony drug charges after authorities obtained a search warrant and found, among other things, large quantities of methamphetamine inside a Mountain Street home near an elementary school.

Carsonsports.com reports a successful season start for the Carson High School Senators volleyball team. The girls won five of six matches and finished fifth overall at the Las Vegas Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

It didn't matter to the Carson High football team that the opposition was one of the Sacramento area's top teams. The Senators had an answer — on more than one occasion — and came away with an impressive 31-10 season opening victory at home against Del Campo on Friday night.

A man died early this evening after a head-on vehicle accident on Highway 50 in Mound House near Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed.

Two men were flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, with one of the victims dying at the hospital, said NHP Sgt. Eddie Bowers. The accident happened at 4:15 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle who is believed to be the one who caused the accident, is the man who died, Bowers said. The second victim was reportedly conscious and alert at the hospital, he added.

Collectors from as far as Florida and New York are in Carson City this weekend to gawk and potentially buy priceless pieces of historic minted coins and printed paper money in what has become a must-attend event for serious numismatists.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office and paramedics responded to Carson High School late this morning in response to a student-related issue that was non-emergency in nature, school and law officials said. The issue has been resolved and school officials are working with the new student, who is not in trouble.

CARSON CITY – A plan released today by Democrat governor candidate Rory Reid on how to balance the Nevada state budget without raising taxes received some praise from a free market think tank even though many questions remain, including whether the proposal includes an overly optimistic prediction of future tax revenue growth.

Parks 4 Paws, a nonprofit community group to develop designated dogs parks in Carson City, in conjunction with Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and the community pool will sponsor the second annual Pooch Plunge on Saturday, Sept. 18. Last year’s event was very entertaining to watch. It was debatable who had more fun – the dogs or their owners.

A young boy has been found safe, reportedly at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, authorities report this afternoon. The boy was found at about 4:30 p.m. and is now with family members.

The boy was reported missing at about 3:20 today from Fritsch Elementary. Authorities combed the area looking for the child, going street-by-street and block-by-block, and at area parks. Deputies also made contact with registered sex offenders.
