One dead in Highway 50 accident near Carson City and Lyon County line
A man died early this evening after a head-on vehicle accident on Highway 50 in Mound House near Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed.
Two men were flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, with one of the victims dying at the hospital, said NHP Sgt. Eddie Bowers. The accident happened at 4:15 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle who is believed to be the one who caused the accident, is the man who died, Bowers said. The second victim was reportedly conscious and alert at the hospital, he added.
The fatality victim was driving a white Toyota Siena minivan which was traveling westbound on Highway 50 in the number one travel lane. For unknown reasons the minivan drifted into the eastbound lane, colliding with a white Toyota pickup, Bowers said.
The accident happened at the Carson City/Lyon County line. Traffic in both lanes was blocked briefly in both directions to allow for the Care Flight helicopters to pick up the victims.
Eastbound traffic continues to be restricted, being routed around the scene of the accident on the shoulder.
