Due to severe incoming winter weather in northern Nevada, Gov. Joe Lombardo has announced that state offices in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County, and Washoe County will remain closed on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. Aside from essential public safety and corrections personnel, state offices in these counties will be closed today due to incoming winter storms.

A Dayton woman missing since last week was found deceased Sunday in a remote area of Douglas County, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) held a press conference today in Carson City regarding the downed Care Flight airplane that crashed in Stagecoach on Friday night.

During the conference, it was confirmed that the plane's wing had broken off mid-flight only about 14 minutes after it had taken off.

UPDATE 7:30PM: Both directions of I-580 in Washoe Valley are now open, with chains required and vehicles being escorted by pilot car, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

This month’s Pioneer Academy’s senior spotlight is on Madelyn Peachay. She is one of Pioneer Academy’s high achieving students, that found success despite many challenges, including the pandemic which hit during her 9th grade year.

Carson City’s business climate is the topic at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. Carson City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ronni Hannaman will be the featured. The public is invited to attend the luncheon meeting takes place at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Feb. 27 to March 5. Weather permitting, closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is joining forces with Sierra Nevada Cornhole to host the inaugural St. Patrick’s Day Cornhole Tournament.

The event takes place Sat., March 18 at the Carson City Mac, with registration from 12 to 1:30 p.m., and bags will fly at 2 p.m.

As their class project, the 2023 class of the Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute will be refurbishing the Veterans Resource Center at the Western Nevada College.

On Friday, March 3 beginning at 8:15 a.m., the Carson City Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission will be holding a joint meeting at Western Nevada College in the Nugget Hall.

Meeting topics include growth management, language updates, zoning, and more during this joint work session.

On Friday, a Care Flight plane crashed outside Stagecoach. Care Flight provided the following update:

Care Flight, a service of REMSA Health, headquartered in Reno, Nevada and Guardian Flight, headquartered in Utah, can confirm that a PC 12 fixed wing aircraft, tail number N273SM, went off radar Friday, Feb. 24, at approximately 9:45 p.m., near Stagecoach, Nevada.

UPDATE 8 a.m.: A statement from Care Flight can be found here.

UPDATE 12:30 a.m.: The aircraft has been confirmed as a plane, and all passengers within it are deceased. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

UPDATE 12:11 a.m.: All fire personnel are leaving the scene.

UPDATE 11:34 p.m.: The area is being cordoned off until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) can investigate. An ambulance was requested from Carson City, but there is no update on the crew as of yet.

UPDATE 11:15 p.m.: The downed aircraft has been located off of Iron Mountain and Shawnee.

UPDATE: 11:13 p.m.: Debris from the crash have been located on a property off of Iron Mountain near Stagecoach. Responders are are actively searching for debris from the flight. If you locate any debris, please do not handle it and call 911 to report its location.

Multiple agencies are responding to what appears to be a crash of a Care Flight aircraft in Stagecoach, according to Lyon County dispatch.

A Care Flight liaison is on route from Carson City to the scene of the crash.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a runaway juvenile.

We are attempting to locate Zoey Fagan, a 14-year-old white female juvenile.

This was a busy week at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. I would like to take this time to inform the community of several events that took place throughout the week.

Due to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reporting severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions, Governor Joe Lombardo has ordered an early closing for all state government offices in Carson City, Douglas County, Esmeralda County, Lincoln County, Lyon County, Nye County, Storey County, and Washoe County today.

James Rodney Stewart, 78, passed away January 28 after a brief illness. Born to Charles and Shirley Stewart on January 19, 1945 in Annandale, Virginia, the sixth child of nine offspring. He grew up an independent wandering spirit, often leaving school and family to find adventures and employment. He once worked as a jockey. Jim volunteered to serve as an Army soldier in Vietnam and was wounded after one and a half tours. After recovering in Hawaii he was stationed in Germany where he married and had three children; Clifford, Jimmy, and Rita. Jimmy preceded him in death in 1992.

Due to travel impacts from regional winter storms, Douglas County Manager Patrick Cates has declared that all nonessential County offices are to close at noon today (Friday, February 24, 2023).

Douglas County courts will remain open for normal business hours.

At 9:15 a.m., a crash was reported in the northbound lanes of I-580 and College.

Injuries are unknown.
