Carson City, NV - Occupy Carson City, an extension of the Occupy Wall St. movement, will hold their weekly peaceful assembly on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Legislature Sidewalks at 401 S. Carson Street in Downtown Carson City. Everyone is welcome to participate, and the group has been in close communication with law enforcement to avoid any problems.

Carson City issued a proclamation on November three “recognizing the religious and historical significance of the festival of Diwali.” Mayor Robert L. Crowell read the proclamation in the meeting of Carson City Board of Supervisors and then presented it to Hindu statesman Rajan Zed.

It looks like Carson City missed out on attracting a major new company to town. Chobani Greek Yogurt announced on its website today that it will be opening a new facility in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Carson City and Twin Falls were competing to land the yogurt factory, that could employ up to 1,500 people.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested transient Joshua Lieberman, 30, at the corner of Fall and Long streets Wednesday afternoon, for felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched after a call was placed about a person possibly selling drugs. Deputies spotted the subject - later identified as Lieberman - near the FISH store, acting nervously and clenching his left fist. Being told to relax made the subject more nervous.

The video reportedly shows Sencion exiting the restaurant after shooting the victims inside, and then shows him shooting B.J. Lejon, 67, who was standing near a motorcycle in the parking lot. Fortunately, the helmet she was wearing saved her life, according to Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong.

Lejon is seen trying to duck behind the motorcycle, but Sencion sees her. She said she begged him not to shoot her, to no avail. She is still recovering from her wounds.

Her husband, who was inside the restaurant but not wounded, didn't find out about his wife being shot until eight hours later because of all the chaos at the scene.

The sober grad party for Carson High School is back on after a successful appeal for volunteers to help with the event. The event began in 1988, and includes a party at the Carson City Community Center and a bus trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif.

On November 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time and 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, the federal government will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).  The test will last up to three and a half minutes. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows will be interrupted as the system is being tested. 

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Jose Manuel Olivas, 22, Tuesday night in the 1900 block of North Carson Street for felony trafficking of methamphetamine.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling on foot around the motel after reports of illegal drug activity in the area. He saw the suspect take a cell phone out of his pocket, and a plastic bag fell out on the ground. When the deputy asked the suspect if he had anything illegal on him, he said he had meth.

A Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly embezzling more than $10,000 from Carson Tahoe Veterinary Hospital.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — This is an annual, late fall article on how to enjoy those tiny, irresistible, tasty gourmet treats known as pine nuts.
For those unfamiliar with them, they are the seeds of the Pinon Pine Tree, which is the official tree of the State of Nevada. The Pinon is a fairly short, bushy looking, rather unattractive, full-of-pitch tree and it is one of the main physical features of our Great Basin area.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Regional Transportation Commission. The RTC is the policy making body on transportation issues within Carson City who's purpose is to establish priorities and recommend appropriate funding for transportation improvement projects. The members of the Regional Transportation Committee also serve on the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board to discuss and take action on federal monies spent on transportation and transit projects within the Carson Metropolitan Planning Area.

After losing money for the last three years, the Arlington Ice Rink in downtown Carson City is expected to pay for itself. Joel Dunn, operations manager for Carson City Parks and Recreation, told the Parks and Recreation Commission yesterday that the city's purchase of the rink equipment and rental skates will help close the $100,000 in red ink the operation has posted in previous years. He also expects to increase revenue by 29.2 percent by extending the season two weeks and adding new session packages.

A contestant and former champion in the annual Single-Jack Rock Drilling World Championship that took place on Saturday is on the mend after a piece of metal cut an artery in his arm. Emmit Hoyl was pounding away when a piece of metal chipped off of his hammer and lodged in his arm, causing blood to spurt out. Hoyl kept hammering until another competitor - a doctor - stepped up to stop him before he lost too much blood.

The number of children who qualify for Carson City School District's homeless program has more than doubled this year, to 359. With the weather turning colder, there is an immediate need for winter coats for these kids. People can donate coats at the Gleason Building, 604 W. Musser St., 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays until Dec. 12. Monetary donations are also accepted.

The future isn't so bright for two surviving bear cubs whose mother was accidentally killed by a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy. The deputy had intended to shoot the bear with a rubber bullet to scare it away from a garbage-clutter garage in Stateline.
