This year's Nevada Day Treasure Hunt was the best yet, if you ask me, but it was also the last year that the Mahe family, who took over the hunt in 2015, hosted the month-long hunt.

The Lyon Board of Commissioners will be asked to approve a Request for Proposals in regard to the Solid Waste Disposal Franchise.

The Board held a public workshop in August on this issue and directed staff to return with a proposed RFP on October 21, 2021. The Board heard the item on October 21, 2021 and requested additional amendments to the RFP. Community Development Director Andrew Haskins will present the final draft to the Board on November 18, 2021.

Pioneer Academy’s Speech and Debate team has had a late but great start to the 2021-2022 season. COVID-19’s Delta variant not only knocked out the team’s coach for two weeks but has also caused stricter regulations for tournament participation.

Pioneer Academy missed the first tournament as a result of these complications. In spite of all of the obstacles, freshman Connor Ragan was happy to attend the Wooster tournament Saturday, October 16.

A 57-year-old transient man was arrested for a vehicle burglary after “going around attempting to get into anybody’s vehicle if it was open” in an attempt to steal items from the vehicles allegedly to buy food, according to the report.

COVID-19 Case Update

For the week, CCHHS is reporting 22 deaths, 350 new cases, and 238 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 20,823, with 15,773 recoveries and 361 deaths; 4,689 cases remain active.

A free COVID-19 vaccination clinic for regular doses, boosters, and vaccinations for children is happening today at WNC in Carson City in the Reynolds Building from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The clinic is being hosted by Carson City Health and Human Services as one of many November vaccine events throughout the quad counties.

A married couple from Dayton was identified as the two deceased victims in the crash in Carson City which resulted in multiple injuries according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner.

On Nevada Day, the Friends of the Nevada State Museum held a raffle for the No. 1 Nevada State Capitol Sesquicentennial Medallion over the course of the Nevada Day weekend.

The medallion, created to celebrate the State Capitol’s 1871 to 2021 Sesquicentennial, was designed by retired U.S. Mint engraver Tom Rogers, signed by him, and minted on coin press no. 1 at the historic Carson City Mint.

One of Carson Valley’s brightest celebrations of the holiday season will take to the streets during the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 25th Annual Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 beginning at 5 p.m.

This year’s parade theme is “Magical Carson Valley”. Residents and visitors will line Highway 395 from Gilman Avenue to Minden Park to watch dozens of colorfully decorated floats.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday afternoon to the 1700 block of Brown Street for a vehicle crash into a power pole causing downed power lines. It is the second incident to happen Thursday in which a vehicle struck a utility pole causing lines to be exposed to the ground.

Gary Haynes of Silver Springs, Nevada passed away on October 10, 2021. He was 80.

Gary was born December 8, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, and moved to San Francisco as a child. Gary later moved to South San Francisco were he was raised and graduated from South San Francisco High School. Gary excelled in sports, and held many high school and county records for swimming.
