Happy (almost) Nevada Day, Carson City! The balloons are readying, the runners are stretching, the floaters are floating, and attendees are making sure their wooly socks and hand warmers are ready to go!

Let's take a look at the parade line up for tomorrow! For all of the Nevada Day events, you can see our weekend events round up, or our specific Parade Day events here.

This year, for those who can't make it down to the parade route on Saturday for the Nevada Day Parade, don't fret: you won't miss the action!

A livestream of the parade will be taking place from beginning to end on the Nevada Day Facebook page.

The Nevada Day Powwow will return Friday through Sunday, Oct. 27-29, at the Robert Crowell Multi-Purpose Athletic Center, 1860 Russell Way in Carson City.

Dating back to the 1960s, the first gathering occurred on the Carson Colony grounds. As the years passed, the gathering had its bad and good years.

Thirty-five years running. We are excited and thankful, as always, to put on one of our signature races and be part of the Nevada Day weekend. This is a classic road course through the streets of west Carson City. Costumes are HIGHLY encouraged.

This year's theme is Home Means Nevada so be creative and be part of the fun. An annual event since 1989, the Nevada Day Classic is an 8K run and a 2-mile run/walk that kicks off Nevada Day and sends runners/walkers through the beautiful, historic West Side of Carson City and a finish down the main drag with spectators lining the way.

Jump-start your Nevada Day with a brisk run or walk through the streets of beautiful Carson City. Don’t let cold toes be the unnerving end to your Nevada Day fun.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be J. Kyle Dalpe, Ph.D., president of Western Nevada College. Dr. Dalpe has worked in higher education for more than 27 years supporting student access and success. In March 2023, he was appointed President of Western Nevada College (WNC), a rural community college with campuses in Carson City, Fallon and Minden, after serving more than a year in an interim capacity. He previously served as Provost and Senior Vice President at WNC, overseeing academic affairs, finance and student services.

When Diego Fuentez first moved to Reno to attend the University of Nevada in 2017, he had never really heard of the Nevada Day Parade.

He had been living in Vegas prior to his move to the north, and was impressed by the university’s diverse opportunities in music.

He joined the marching band, and experienced the Nevada Day Parade firsthand without realizing the scope of the day.

“I thought, wow, this is extremely cool,” Fuentez said. “I was able to do it once, but it made a lasting impression.”

This larger-than-life guy has a personality as big as his namesake, with a penchant for bones and a love for car rides. At first, our gentle giant can be a tad wary of strangers - perhaps he's just waiting for his own fairy tale adventure to begin.

While the Carson Valley region is known for its beautiful, sprawling golf courses, it’s also known for another reason: Dealing with freezing or wintery weather for nearly half the year.

For avid golfers, this can be a bit of a challenge, but no more with the Swing 395 Indoor Golf Club.

The Northern Nevada Independent Electrical Contractors are hosting a Chili and Soup Cook Off at Carson High School, 1111 North Saliman Road, Thursday, November 2, at 5:30 p.m.

The proceeds from this event will support Carson High's Capitol FFA Chapter. Cost to enter a dish in the contest is $10 per entry.

The Carson Mall in downtown Carson City has fun for all ages planned this Nevada Day. Anchoring the end of the parade, the Carson Mall will be a hub of festivities including the annual hot air balloon launch, the 50th Annual World Championship Single Jack Rock Drilling Contest, cornhole tournaments, live music and the annual Trading Post and Artisan’s Market.

UPDATE: 743PM: Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol responded Thursday evening to a vehicle rollover in the southbound lane of I-580 near North Carson Street. The incident is also causing delays in the northbound lane due to a debris field and a second crash nearby.

NV Energy and the Nevada Department of Transportation are announcing brief closures of Interstate 580 between northern Carson City and Washoe Valley during the morning of Sunday, Oct. 29. A similar closure happened on Sunday, Oct. 22.

After the Nevada Day Parade, the Carson City Historical Society invites the public to attend an Open House at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum and the Carriage House following the Nevada Day Parade.

The Open House will start around 2:00 p.m., at the conclusion of the parade, and will last until 5 p.m. Visitors should first report to the Carriage House, the yellow building with the double doors just east of the Foreman-Roberts House Museum.

The Carson City Host Lions Club has been designated an official vendor of the Nevada Day Button. Lions will be selling the buttons again this year during the Nevada Day Parade for $2.

Shakespearian actors will join the Reno Jazz Orchestra to perform the music of Duke Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder” concert on November 11 and 12, 2023, at the Good Luck Macbeth theater in Reno. David A. Brennan, DMA, will be the Guest Music Director, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s Jazz Workshop students will open the show.

Sierra Arts Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for arts and the artists that create it within a 200 mile radius of the Reno, Sparks region, is hosting the first Holiday Music and Art Festival in partnership with the Carson City Parks and Recreation department at Silver Saddle Ranch on Nov. 18.
