The Nevada Artists Association Gallery will take entries for the Judged “Spirit of America” Show on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Entries will be accepted from 10am-1pm only at the Gallery, 449 W. King Street, Carson City. There is a 3 entry limit per person. You do not have to follow the theme.

Free Fishing Day is your one chance during the year to get hooked for free. Nevada Department of Wildlife hosts its annual Free Fishing Day this Saturday, June 10. Anglers may fish in any public water in the state without a fishing license. All limits and other regulations apply.

Democratic leadership and Gov. Joe Lombardo’s administration came to an agreement on all but one of the five major state budget implementation bills, with the measure funding state public works and construction faltering in the Senate in the final hours of the session and a special session on the horizon.

As part of the budget compromise, Democrats and Lombardo brokered a deal on three major Lombardo bills, including charter school legislation, a government modernization effort and criminal justice reforms — but all were substantially watered down from their original forms.

The Rotary Club of Carson City is working on another city beautification project. The club has donated 26 large trees to the Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, new housing revitalization project.

A total of 459 graduating seniors received their diplomas at Carson High School’s graduation ceremonies Saturday in Carson City as proud families cheered them on the football field and school district officials and teachers congratulated them.

The Nevada Department of Transportation has closed Mason Road (State Route 827) in the Mason area due to a sinkhole. The sinkhole was likely created by high Walker River water levels flooding the nearby land.

The road is closed to through traffic between State Routes 339 and 208. This closed section of Mason Road travels east from Mason over the Walker River.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center is seeing an increase of callers using alternative contact methods when trying to reach public safety services.

In many cases, this is causing a delay in services being dispatched. For example, when requesting a Deputy to respond to a location, if the message is left on a voicemail or email platform, it is not likely to be received or read immediately, or in some cases, even on the same date as the message was left.

Summer signals the return of the annual Carson City Library Summer Reading Challenge starting Saturday, June 17 from 12 to 4 p.m. with a themed kick-off celebration titled, "Around the World.”

This annual reading literacy initiative provides an opportunity for the public to join in the challenge and festivities held at the Carson City Library, located at 900 North Roop St.
