Jacqueline (Jackie) Estrada Diaz is all of the things one expects of high achievers – hardworking, exuberant, persistent, but somehow also she is so much more – resilient, compassionate, inventive, hilarious. Jackie is a firm advocate for newcomer English Language Learners, and as a first-generation student who has only lived in the U.S. for six years, she has first-hand knowledge of the barriers they face.

The Douglas County Community and Senior Center annual auction kicked off on Tuesday, November 21 and will continue through December 15. The Foundation Board has been working behind the scenes for months procuring incredible items and packages for bid, thanks to amazing donors.

He will tell the story of Carson's community radio station from its humble beginnings in 2017 to today's diverse programmings that includes talk shows, news programs, serial dramas, and music genres that run the gamut from Rock, Pop, Blues and Jazz to Celtic, Retro, and Psychedelic.

Agriculture and art meet to showcase the region’s artisans and ag students at the 3rd Annual Ag & Artisan Holiday Faire Saturday, Dec. 2, at the historic Storke Dairy, 876C Centerville Lane in Gardnerville, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nick Jacques grew up with a passion for music. Jacques, 36, said he first began to play the alto saxophone when he was in the fourth grade in Southern California, and continued playing music throughout middle school and high school. After a slight delay due to warm weather that was followed up over the weekend with light snow showers and much cooler conditions, Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe announced it will be open for skiing Tuesday, Nov. 21, with Northstar California to follow Thanksgiving day. Kirkwood Mountain Resort is scheduled for Dec. 1, conditions permitting.

As the holiday season quickly approaches and families plan to gather, it’s possible that some will start to see changes in their aging loved ones.
