Organizers of today's (Sunday) Carson City Symphony concert have decided to move the venue indoors at the Governor's Mansion' North Room (Larry Ruvo Stateroom).

Music Director David Bugli consulted several weather reporting systems (apps, websites, etc.), and has received several concerned calls and emails, and thus came to the conclusion that the chance of rain during the concert is more than likely.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Rotary Club of Carson City members will learn about the organization and its impact on our community at the next club meeting, Tuesday June 13. The public is invited to attend the noon luncheon which takes place in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

The highlight of the Carson City Chamber Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 14 will be the presentation of special recognition awards to outstanding local businesses and people who promote growth and prosperity for the betterment of our community.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Watch from Sunday 1 p.m. to Monday, 9 p.m. for Carson City, much of Western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 12-18, 2023. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

CCRP will be holding our Freedom Fest on July 20, 2023, from 5:30 to 8:30 underneath the beautiful trees on Glen Eagles' lawn.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday reports came in that the road near Koontz and Silver Sage and near the Post Office appear to be “caving in” presumably due to flooding.

Motorists must avoid this area for their own safety.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: Flood waters are covering the road in front of the high school along Saliman including the apartment complex and the entrance to Mills Park.

UPDATE 2:58 p.m.: Mudslides reported on Curry Street near Galaxy Theater. A report of three feet of water shooting out of the ground near the Skate Park in Mills Park is being investigated.

Other counties are being called to respond to numerous incidents of weather related emergencies.

The Carson City Farmers Market opened for its 15th season Saturday within its new location in Mills Park. Within the first two hours, hundreds of of market goers had already poured in. On June 9, 2023, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was made aware, by an anonymous person, of a possible child neglect/endangerment situation.

The reporting party advised there was a juvenile, who resides in the Mound House area, who would wander the neighborhood in their diaper without parental supervision.

Thursday June 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Nevada State Museum in Carson City continues its Francis Humphrey lecture series with a Chautauqua performance by local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff.

The Woodruffs re-enact the characters of George and Elia Whittell, one of the wealthiest couples on the West Coast during the 1920s through 1950s.
