Now that all of the preliminaries are out of the way, the Carson High swimming and diving team is ready to focus on the final three weeks of its season -- the High Desert League, Northern 4A Regional and NIAA state championship meets.

The Carson High J.V. baseball team ran into a hot-hitting Bishop Manogue squad on Saturday, losing both ends of a Sierra League doubleheader at home, 16-4 and 15-4.

While the Western Nevada College softball team couldn't pull off another upset against one of the nation's top teams, the Wildcats came away from this weekend's series against College of Southern Idaho knowing it could compete with one of the Scenic West Athletic Conference's elite clubs.

CSI swept a doubleheader against WNC on Saturday in Twin Falls, Idaho, winning the opener 6-3 and the nightcap 14-7. WNC was tied with CSI 3-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning in the opener and led 7-5 in the nightcap.

The Nevada Appeal has uncovered a few new tidbits about Nugget Project consultant Mark Lewis.

Following the piece I wrote on Lewis this week, the Appeal found a grand jury report dealing with Lewis' big project developments as city manager of Stockton, Calif. The report showed that costs associated with development of the the Stockton ballpark and events center swelled from an estimate of $75 million to more than $120 million, and placed the blame for this on Lewis and the lack of oversight by the city's elected officials.

It's been a long time in coming for the Western Nevada College softball program and a marquee win on Friday demonstrated how far the Wildcats have come.

WNC picked up the biggest win in the program's two-year history with a 6-5 victory at College of Southern Idaho in the second game of a doubleheader in Twin Falls, Idaho. CSI won the opener 8-0.
 

With two regular season matches remaining, the Carson High boys golf team faces a serious uphill climb to achieve its season goal of qualifying for the Northern 4A Regional Tournament at Empire Ranch Golf Course. However, the door remains open for some of the Senators to qualify as individuals as they preparer for the home stretch of their season.

Residents of Carson City interested in serving between 12 to 16 hours a month on the Carson City Planning Commission are encouraged to apply for three open positions.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents interested in serving on the Commission, which oversees all Carson City planning and zoning matters, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m., at the Community Center in the Sierra Room.

CARSON CITY — Nevada is launching a new summer ad campaign aimed largely at the massive online and television markets to entice visitors to the Silver State, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki, Nevada Commission on Tourism chair, announced this week.

“Our goal is to convince spring and summer travelers that Nevada is their best bet to experience an unforgettable vacation for outstanding value,” Krolicki said. “We’re taking our ads to the busiest marketplaces, where potential travelers spend the most time and are more likely to be influenced.”

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will celebrate the delivery of the historic McKeen Motor Car V&T No. 22 on May 9, marking the completion of its decade-long restoration and the 100th year anniversary of its arrival in Carson City.
The event will take place  Sunday, May 9, with the ceremony/program to begin at Noon, at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 South Carson Street, Carson City. After a public ceremony and inaugural trip, rides will be available to the public. McKeen Car Rides: will be at 1:30, 2, 2:30, 3, 3:30 and 4 p.m.

A 57-year-old Reno man was killed after a tractor trailer slammed into an unoccupied home on Highway 50 west of Fallon, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this morning.

Larry D. Chance of Reno died from injuries after being transported to Churchill County Community Hospital in Fallon.

Today's Nevada Appeal has a story about how a developer has been selected for the Carson Nugget downtown redevelopment project.

The story mentioned that the developer, P3 Development, built the $64 million Stockton Events Center while Mark Lewis was that city's manager.

But that understates the ties between Lewis and the developer. Looking at the projects listed on P3's website, a large part of their work seems to stem from the City of Stockton, and happened during Lewis' tenure.
