A Carson City man faces multiple misdemeanor charges after he reportedly fled from authorities, tossing stolen credit cards and dropping a CO2 gun during a foot chase over several blocks.

The 24-year-old unemployed man with a history of trouble with the law was seen walking with another man and reportedly looking through homes at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Walker Drive in Carson City.

CARSON CITY – They have names like the Landscape Architecture Board, the Nevada Arts Council and the Commission on Mineral Resources, and there are more than 180 of them functioning within Nevada state government.

A Reno truck driver faces weapons and other charges after he was arrested Sunday in Carson City and found to be in illegal possession of a loaded short barrel shotgun and a fully-loaded and ready-to-fire .44 magnum pistol in his waistband.

John Thomas Aston, 67, was arrested in the 2100 block of Highway 50 East at about 9:20 a.m. Sunday after an officer initiated a stop when the plates on his vehicle didn't match those on record.

Carson City authorities are trying to determine how a man died after he was found in the middle of North Plaza and Telegraph streets early this morning. Foul play is not suspected, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Deputies responded to the intersection at about 6:30 this morning after the man was reportedly found in the middle of the street and bleeding from the head. He apparently fell face first into the pavement which is what caused the bleeding, Furlong said.

An autopsy will be conducted on the man who had a Nevada identification card on him when he was found.

Gaming revenue for the Carson City and Carson Valley areas for fiscal year 2010 were among the state's best considering overall statewide declines, according data released today by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Gaming Revenue for the Carson City and Carson Valley area was down 4.3 percent for fiscal year 2010 over 2009 figures. The Las Vegas strip reported the best revenue figures, down 3.1 percent, according to the control board.

A hit and run accident sent a Carson City woman to the hospital by Care Flight Sunday night and authorities are now looking for the driver who hit her.

The 20-year-old Carson City woman was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno. She is said to be slated for release later after suffering injuries from the accident, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The highly touted English film "The King's Speech" has finally made its way to the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, in time the for the Academy Awards next month where it is a strong favorite to win an Oscar or two. It's nominated for 12 awards.

So it took its time to reach us, but the wait was worthwhile as this is clearly a superior historical drama with a fine cast.

RENO – When Gov. Brian Sandoval’s staff reduced funding for the Sierra Regional Center in the governor’s proposed budget, he may not have known what that would mean to the Stangelands.

A monthly and annual update on Carson City's financial scorecard will be presented to the board of supervisors when they meet this week.

The presentation is a monthly business review related to the performance scorecard for the city and includes data relevant to manufacturing and other sectors. Supervisors will meet beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.

A 52-year-old Lyon County woman who died at the scene of an accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton on Friday night has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Carole Marie Ernst of Silver Springs died from injuries in the accident that remains under investigation. Two others remain in stable condition at Renown Medical Center in Reno, a NHP spokesman said.

Ernst was a passenger in the two-vehicle accident, which was reported at 10:51 p.m., about 7 miles east of Dayton, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, he added.

The drivers of both vehicles were flown by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. They are Cindy Ann Leon, 32, from Silver Springs who is listed in stable condition. The second driver, Jessica Lynn Sanchez, is also listed in stable condition.

RENO — A new streamlined system to enable University of Nevada, Reno and Desert Research Institute (DRI) faculty to begin start-up companies and seek entrepreneurial partnerships is part of a new plan launched this month.

The idea, now a part of the university's Technology Transfer Office, is based primarily on a new standard license agreement, the “NSHE Express,” available to faculty-based start-up companies.

CARSON CITY – The fact that Nevada has the worst unemployment rate in the nation isn’t exactly news, but a report released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics provides an in-depth picture of just how bad it was in 2010.
The report shows that Nevada’s “actual” unemployment rate for the calendar year was 23.6 percent, with California second at 22.1 percent.

A prominent education official has called for tax increases to offset the proposed higher education budget cuts in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s budget.

Applications for the position of Carson City Justice of the Peace / Municipal Court Judge are being accepted through Feb. 11 by the Board of Supervisors. The position is to fill the vacancy created by retiring judge Robey Willis whose last day is March 12.

Applications will be available for downloading from the City’s website at www.carson.org or may be obtained in person from the City Manager’s Office, 201 N. Carson Street, Suite 2.

A Carson City man faces multiple charges including felony drug possession and misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence, after being arrested late Thursday night during a traffic stop.

Isiah Treur, 32, was stopped at Fairview and the bypass at around 11:20 after officers observed him speeding and drifting across the fog line and failing to maintain his lane of traffic, according to the arrest report.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has named Jim Barbee, an agriculture consultant with the Department of Education, as the state's acting ag director.
Barbee replaces Tony Lesperance who quit after Sandoval said he wouldn't reappoint him, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Mark Twain Elementary School after allegedly having a disagreement with his son's teacher and saying "this is going to be another Columbine."

According to the arrest report, the teacher told deputies that the boy's recess privileges were suspended for the week after he was caught picking on a Hispanic student, taking that student's coat and using it like a bullfighter's cape, yelling "Torro, Torro!"

Leroy Raymond Yeoman, 31, and Shane Robert Donovan, 22, were arrested Wednesday afternoon after an NV Energy employee reported witnessing the men cutting up a passive reflector microwave tower located in the mountains east of Sedge Road.

According to the arrest report, the NV Energy employee was dispatched to the tower location after the company lost the microwave feed from Geiger Grade. When he arrived, he said he observed the subjects cutting up the tower with a power saw and loading the metal in a pickup truck and trailer. The employee said the men admitted tearing it down for scrap.

CARSON CITY – It’s a rare occurrence that a governor calls a federal law “unconstitutional” one minute and advocates implementing that same law a minute later.

But that’s what happened earlier this week when Gov. Brian Sandoval called for Nevada to move forward with creating the Nevada Health Insurance Exchange, one of the mandates under the Obama administration’s 2010 health care bill.
