Carson City fire crews and deputies have responded to a structure fire at the intersection of College Parkway and Otha Street. The fire, reportedly a trailer, is emitting heavy smoke with some flames showing. The call came into dispatch at around 2:20 this afternoon.
Carson City sheriff's deputies have been asked to to block traffic in the area.

The Best of the Best of Broadway will be presented as part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival on July 25 at 7:30 PM. This spectacular musical and dance theater medley will be performed at the Sand Harbor Warren Trepp Amphitheater on beautiful Lake Tahoe by the Sierra Nevada Ballet and musical friends.

Musical numbers from some of the all time favorite musicals such as Show Boat, Sweet Charity, Hello Dolly and more will offer “a vivid performance under the stars for all ages and musical interests”, according to Artistic

Fareed Zakaria is a TV talk show who knows the complex world of economics, the Mideast and international politics. His book "The Post-American World, Release 2.0," paints a world where the United States is no longer the sole superpower. Not that superpowers are measured in size of armies but rather in economic sense.
Zakaria writes well and with a tremendous fund of knowledge, and while he paints a grim picture for the USA, he doesn't write the country off.

OK, so I missed the first seven Harry Potter films and the J.K Rowling books that served as the basis for the series. Bad planning or no planning. So when the last of the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," opened at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex with three theaters showing the film simultaneous, in 2-D and 3-D, I figured time to catch up.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin a project to mill and overlay a section of US 395 from the junction with US 50 (Spooner) in Carson City to south of Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Fire crews have knocked down a 123-acre blaze that started late Saturday morning near the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range off Flint Drive near the landfill.
Called the Rifle Fire, flames and smoke that billowed through the eastern edge of Carson City were extinguished after several agencies, helicopters and air tankers attacked the fire head-on through the afternoon and into the evening reports the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
An air tanker was taken off the fire and some equipment was moved out of the area after 5 p.m., said Helen Frazier of the dispatch center.

The suspect who fired a single gun shot tonight in the area of an arson fire early this morning on Garnet Way and Duck Hill has been found dead.
The gunshot was heard around 7 p.m., and authorities spent more than two hours searching for the suspect, Robert McCleary, who was wanted for questioning after reportedly setting his home on fire and leaving surreptitious messages.

CARSON CITY – Efforts to resolve Nevada’s redistricting impasse remain a work in progress after a proposal floated Tuesday by a Carson City judge to use county election officials to draw new legislative and congressional lines ran into some opposition.
The job of redrawing Nevada’s political lines has fallen to District Judge James Todd Russell after two Democrat-approved redistricting plans were vetoed by Gov. Brian Sandoval. Sandoval vetoed the measures after concluding the proposals did not follow the federal Voting Rights Act.

The federal government is more generous to some states than others and least of all to Nevada, according to an analysis by Federal Funds Information for States (FFIS) which tracks budget policy across the nation.
Some states receive fewer federal dollars because they operate relatively modest Medicaid programs that trigger a smaller amount of matching federal money.

A 10-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident on Thursday eight miles south of Carson CIty in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. The boy and the driver of the SUV were taken by Care Flight where the child later died of his injuries at a Reno hospital.

The boy, Felix Vargas, was in the SUV with seven others when it rolled over, with the boy being thrown from the vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Carson City authorities remain on the scene of a fire which destroyed a home early this morning near the intersection of Garnet Way and Ruby Lane. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, a search both on and off the property is being conducted for the homeowner.
It is not known where owner Robert McCleary is at, but given the suspicious nature of the fire and the possibility that it was intentionally set, the homeowner is a person of interest, Furlong said.
"We are still sifting through the debris," he said.
