If you watched the movie Killers of the Flower Moon, you might have recognized something from Virginia City. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad (V&T) provided a 1916 steam locomotive and three passenger cars for the film.

Dozens of individuals have filed to run in both local and statewide elections as of Friday evening. Filing closed at 5 p.m. Most offices and seats will have a race, although a handful of candidates are running unopposed and will automatically fill their seats.

This week the senior in the spotlight is Jacob Budd. Jacob is an excellent student and member of the Carson High School and Carson City community. He is dedicated to his studies and improving the lives of those around him.

Community partners will plant pinwheels in the legislative lawn Friday, April 5 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to symbolize every child’s right to a safe, healthy, and happy life, and to impress upon the community that child abuse and neglect are serious problems.

Mike Epps is the owner of A to Zen in Carson City and also a key member of the BAC Crew. After complications from an initial surgery to remove stage 3 esophageal cancer, Mike had to be rushed to an emergency surgery February 2, 2024 and has been in the Intensive Care Unit on a ventilator since. The community is now banding together to support the man that has tirelessly given us all so much.

Once a month the Maizie Theater hosts rising stars in the songwriting world from both near and far. Friday May 3rd features Django Walker with opening act Darren Senn.

A Celebration of New Choreography

Sierra Nevada Ballet partners with the Brewery Arts Center, the Reno Little Theater, and Steinway Piano Gallery to produce an exciting program that has become a signature SNB annual tradition.

Brew, Brats and Ballet – A Celebration of New Choreography features brand new short choreographic works by local and out of state artists.

Around 11 a.m. on Friday, was reported at the intersection of Saliman and 5th Streets.

The tradition of cutting designs out of felt, paper, or other materials are ancient. Now residing in Reno, NV, with his wife, Sturo is establishing a new, unique style of American Fine Art. “The Tsagasun Baru” Silhouette Fine Art will be on display for all to experience.

On Jan. 26 the Carson City Elks Lodge again held the Flannel & Frost fundraiser for Night Off The Streets (NOTS), the Carson City warming center a 501 (c) 3.

Violinists Laurentiu Norocel and Claire Tatman collaborate with Reno’s own master violin maker, Tim Dodd, in a reprise their August 2023 event. A combination concert and informal discussion will take place as well as a demonstration of the “anatomy” and function of violins. This concert will feature violin solos and duets played by the artists using violins made by Mr. Dodd.

The Sierra Sweethearts have been playing their sassy mix of Cowgirl, Bluegrass, Classic County and Doo Wop music throughout Northern Nevada and California since 2014. From Susanville to Death Valley, Eureka to Santa Cruz, they’ve put in some miles spreading their music to Historic Opera Houses and Theaters throughout “Gold Rush” country, Festivals, Weddings, Country Dances and backroad taverns.

The program, called Green Box To-Go Nevada, aims to reduce single-use materials by providing a circular system where food containers get reused by customers and professionally sanitized by restaurants.

RENO, Nev. — Paul Leroy Abowd, 96, died March 11 at his home in Reno. A true pioneer in the culinary world and a beloved figure in our Northern Nevada community, Paul was born June 11, 1927 in Fremont Ohio. It was here he began his culinary journey working in family-run restaurants when he was young. This instilled in him a passion for food and hospitality that shaped his extraordinary career.
