A man who declined to give his name to Carson City sheriff's deputies was booked Monday for suspicion of possession of credit cards that weren't his, DUI and other offenses.

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

A lot of people knew Bob Crowell better and longer than I did. My heart goes out to them all. My heart also goes out to the communities he served. They may not know what they have lost. They have lost a selfless, consensus building and principled advocate.

Bob could sit for hours in rooms with people who righteously argued their positions - talking over one another. Bob would not weigh in. He would listen. Really listen. And then he would find common ground. And things would move forward.

He was a devoted husband. Father. Grandfather. I don’t have the words to speak for their loss.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is asking for assistance in identifying an unknown suspect, alleged to have fraudulently used a stolen credit card.

The Carson City School District reported an additional three positive COVID-19 cases. Two of the persons work in the transportation department with a connection to the previously reported case.

Those employees previously identified will continue to quarantine for the recommended isolation period, and transportation services will resume as soon as possible (at the earliest, Sept. 22, but possibly longer if more employees test positive).

The third confirmed case is an individual at Carson High School.
