Nine fire agencies from four Nevada counties and one California county have agreed to adopt and implement a standardized apparatus and station identification system. A member of the public discovered a bear shot and dumped on the east side of Peavine Peak near Kiowa Pond and reported it to Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) game wardens last week.
Game wardens have initiated an investigation into the killing of the 200-pound male bear that had been shot several times.

Applications for the 2011 Special Sage Grouse Hunt at Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) are now available on the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) website.
The Sheldon hunt will be open for two weekends Sept. 17-18 and Sept. 24-25. This is a permitted hunt, with 75 permits awarded by random draw available for each hunt by reservation only.
The hunt is open to both residents and nonresidents.
