CARSON CITY – GOP U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle said today the attacks on her campaign from opponent Sue Lowden trying to link her to the Church of Scientology are off base and a distraction from the real issues of concern to voters.

A Grass Valley woman faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, carrying a prescription drug without a prescription, marijuana possession and having a hypodermic needle.
According to the arrest report, on Tuesday at about 7 p.m. dispatch broadcasted an attempt to locate a possible DUI driver in a white Acura with California plates, speeding on Carson Street and unable to maintain a single lane.

CARSON CITY – In what took many members of the Nevada state Senate by surprise today, Majority Leader Steven Horsford accepted the resignation of the body’s top staff member, Secretary of the Senate Claire Clift.
Word of Clift’s departure, which occurred today while Horsford was in the capital attending a meeting of the Interim Finance Committee’s Subcommittee for Federal Stimulus Oversight, circulated quickly among members of the Senate.

At Corley Ranch the Chorus of the Comstock honored ninety-five CBI veterans with moving patriotic songs, “ This is My Country”, “America the Beautiful”, and “Armed Forces Medley”. “God Bless America” received a standing ovation.
The audience (over 200) were delighted by the the “old barbershop songs” “Yes Sir That’s My Baby”, “ Five Foot Two”, “Shine on Harvest Moon”, “Darkness on the Delta”, “Nellie” and “ Summertime”.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s unemployment rate keeps creeping upward despite signs the economic slowdown has hit bottom, and April statistics from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show job losses are now being seen in the government employment sector as well.

A Carson City man faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, following an incident early Saturday morning where he allegedly held a piece of glass to the neck of a victim.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in progress at around 4 a.m. Saturday morning. The person reporting the crime told dispatchers they would be waiting in a blue Dodge Durango.

CARSON CITY — The following information was provided by the Nevada Department of Transportation and applies to the period of May 24 - 30. NDOT will work to add a third northbound lane on US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive.The following activity is expected for this project:

— Work continues with single lane closures on northbound US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Shoulder work will continue during the daytime hours with no impacts to traffic.

On the lawn of the Nevada Governor's Mansion will be the site of the Carson City Symphony's 26th annual "Pops Party" concert on Sunday, June 13. The program features the Carson City Symphony directed by David Bugli, Carson Chamber Singers directed by Judy Monson, Strings in the Schools youth orchestra directed by Sue Kitts, and guest vocalists Gary Aldrich and Olivia Hakel.

A team of athletes, many of whom are wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, will leave from Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday for World T.E.A.M. Sports’ inaugural bike trek across America called Sea to Shining Sea. The group will arrive in Carson City on May 28 on their way to their Virginia Beach, Va., destination.

CARSON CITY – While Republican voters have a rare chance to chart the course of the GOP Senate caucus in the upcoming primary, the candidates described by some political observers as the establishment choice say they too are true fiscal conservatives who believe in core party values.

Tensions quickly arose during a discussion on the economic effects of illegal immigration at a town hall forum in Reno yesterday.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, said that immigration – both legal and illegal – creates a “fiscal drain� on public services that is significantly larger than the “miniscule� effect that they have on the per capita income of the nation.
