When we started Carson Now, we set up a way for people to easily post content via email, and especially for those posting from mobile devices. However, few people actually used this method, and it tended to cause more problems than it solved. We finally pulled the plug on this feature last week.

It's all come down to the next three weekends as far as Northern 4A track and field athletes and coaches are concerned. Of course, the state meet is the ultimate goal, but first comes the Northern 4A Regionals, which get under way Saturday with the prelims at Damonte Ranch High in Reno.

Luke Maher and Bruce McIntosh hit three-run homers to highlight a seven-run second inning as the Carson High J.V. baseball team ended its season with a 19-11 victory at home against South Tahoe on Friday afternoon.

Kyle Conwell was happy to be reunited with his Western Nevada College baseball "family" this week. The feeling was certainly mutual on Friday afternoon when the Wildcats came together to bang out 29 hits while sweeping Colorado Northwestern Community College 11-2 and 15-1 during a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at John L. Harvey Field.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- The Carson High softball team likes the position it's in heading into the Northern 4A playoffs.

CHS officially clinched a berth in the postseason with a 10-2 win over South Tahoe in the opener of a doubleheader on Friday and went on to win the second game as well, 5-0. Carson knew it would have third-place in the Sierra League locked up with a win in the opener after losses by Bishop Manogue and Fallon on Thursday.

Various road construction projects will be causing delays and closures next week, with some working continuing even longer.

The LED Light had their official ribbon cutting last night for their new retail store on Fairview. The store offers just about everything you can think of that uses LED lights, known for their energy savings and versatility. Some of the more interesting items: light-up dog frisbees, a camping lantern that runs 45 hours on one set of batteries, LED grow lights for plants, and a strip of lights that you can place under your kitchen counters.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- After one inning, it looked like the Carson High softball team might have a real battle on its hands Thursday afternoon.

But after watching South Tahoe pitcher Mel Smith strike out the side in the top of the first, Lauren Knorzer supplied a welcome boost with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning that put the Senators on track to an important 11-4 Sierra League victory on the South Tahoe Middle School diamond.

This time, the Carson High J.V. baseball team didn't need any drama to get past South Tahoe.
After coming from behind to win 12-7 in nine innings the day before, Carson started fast and rolled to an 11-0 win at home against South Tahoe on Thursday afternoon.

Luke Maher and Rafe King combined to bang out six hits and Carson scored five runs in the second inning to take charge en route to a win that improved its Sierra League record to 11-6 in league (18-10 overall).

The Nevada Department of Transportation has received an award for archeological preservation of the Old Stewart Indian Cemetery. 
An Exemplary Human Environment Initiative award to NDOT was presented by the Federal Highway Administration for partnering efforts to enhance and preserve the historic cemetery as part of the Carson City Freeway project.

OK, so skiing and riding are pretty much over for the season. But get out your swim suits, 'cause Squaw Valley is holding its annual pond skimming event.

As every schoolchild knows, Sam Clemens first used the byline Mark Twain on February 3, 1863, while a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise in Virginia City.

What's not so well known is that he took the name, not as a tribute to the river pilot Captain Sellers (as he wrote in "Life on the Mississippi") but from his facetious way of calling out additions to his bar tab.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- David Charles wasn't a wash with sentimentality after his final start on the mound of his baseball career at Carson High. That frame of mind was a big reason why Charles wasn't caught up in any uncontrolled emotions and threw five shutout innings. And why Charles will be moving on to the next level.

Once again, the Carson High softball team finds itself in a "must win" situation coming into the final weekend of its regular season.

Unlike last year, when they dropped two of three games against Sierra League champion Douglas and were eliminated from the Northern 4A playoff picture despite a 13-8 record, the Senators are looking for a more favorable outcome as they prepare for a three-game regular season-ending series against South Tahoe starting on Thursday.

For a team that's been struggling, this went about as well as could be.
The Western Nevada College baseball team rolled to a 10-2 win over the Reno Astros semipro team on Tuesday at John L. Harvey Field. The Wildcats were able to schedule the game to make up for a rained out game early in the season and the contest couldn't have come at a better time for a club that has lost six of its last games.

Carson High boys golf teammates Mitch Parra and Niko Brewer will both be in position to earn Northern 4A Regional Tournament qualifying berths when they tee off in their final regular match on Wednesday at ArrowCreek Country Club in Reno.
 
There's just one downside to this story. Four teams and five individuals from non-qualifying teams will qualify for the regional tournament next week at Empire Ranch Golf Course -- and in all likelihood only one of them will make the cut for an individual berth.
