A former student banned from the Western Nevada College campus has allegedly sent "disturbing" and "threatening" emails to WNC and Nevada System of Higher Education staff. The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating the matter.

A security alert was issued Monday on the WNC website. The former WNC student named in the alert is Eric Hodgdon. Online college records show there was a 2007 WNC graduate Eric Arthur Hodgdon.

CARSON CITY – A two-hour review by the full Senate today of Gov. Brian Sandoval’s proposed two-year, $5.8 billion general fund budget spent a lot of time on what his spending plan could mean well into the future.

Press Release — Today from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the University of Nevada Latino Student Advisory Board will host a Cesar Chavez commemoration under the rotunda in the Knowledge Center just south of Lawlor Events Center next to the Crowley Student Union. Fiesta Mexicana will dance and Sen. Moises Denis, D-Las Vegas, will speak.

"We are hosting this event because we want to honor Cesar Chavez and his contributions to civil rights," said student leader Carla Castedo, a senior psychology major.

"'Oklahoma!" is the Rogers & Hammerstein classic that changed the face of American musical theater. It will be performed by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company under the direction of Stephanie Arrigotti at the Carson City Community Center. The World Dance Open Floor event at Comma Coffee on Friday, May 20, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m., will be focused on our "Strings in the Schools" program.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club and the Carson Nugget present the Sierra Swing Showcase April 2-3 in the Nugget's upstairs ballroom, 507 N. Carson St., Carson City. Dance contests and workshops for adults and youths are interspersed with open dancing to a variety of DJ music. The Swing Into Spring Formal Dinner Dance and "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest is Saturday, 6 pm-midnight. North Platte, Nebraska is just west of the North Platte and South Platte rivers confluence forming the Platte. North Platte was formed in 1866 with the construction of the continental railroad. In 1941 the population was 12,000.

A couple of weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the women of North Platte heard a troop train with Nebraska National Guard troops would be passing through town. Several of the women decided to bake cookies to give to “our boys” when the train stopped for 10 minutes.

Our guest speaker this month is Tammy Westergard Deputy Director of Carson City Public Library. Tammy Westergard is an active Carson City leader, volunteer and professional. After four years with the Carson City Office of Business Development as well as serving on the library's Foundation board, in 2010 she became the Deputy Director of Carson City Public Library. In that capacity she facilitated the opening of the Business Resource and Innovation Center, a specialized resource focused exclusively on supporting local businesses.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will host the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Sea Group Industries, at 3493 Arrowhead Drive in Carson City on Thursday, April 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sea Group Industries sells alternative energy systems and wholesale parts. The event will be hosted by Mike Bell, Robert Hager and Ian Hager. Ribbon cutting is at 5:30 p.m.

CARSON CITY – Legislators were asked yesterday to imagine an odor so rancid and vile that it requires evacuating the Legislature.
“You would not be able to work in this building,” Donna German, who lives near Fallon, told legislators at a Senate committee.
That is the type of stench residents near Fallon say they have lived with for years.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Student Alliance has declared that it will not support fee increases at state colleges and universities.
The NSA, the association of student body presidents and the student advocacy arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education, has taken a stance that opposes not only Gov. Brian Sandoval’s suggestion to raise college costs, but also Chancellor Dan Klaich’s call for increased fee plans. Click here to read the story.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present "Dances and Romances: A Concert" on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The concert features guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky in performances of Camille Saint-Saens' "Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra" and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Concertino for Harp." The concert also includes A. Paul Johnson's Symphony No. 1 ("The Romantic") and Elena Roussanova Lucas' "Tatarian Dances."
