Local author to sign books and limited-edition prints during Street Vibrations

Author Karel Ancona-Henry will be on hand to sign copies of "Irish Flame's Biker & Travel Guide to Nevada,"as well as limited edition prints, at two locations during Street Vibrations and Thunder on the Comstock.

Appearances and displays will be in Virginia City at Thunder on the Comstock inside the Ponderosa Saloon, beginning Thursday at 2 p.m., Friday at 11 a.m., Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. And at the Road Rider of Reno, 2187 Market Street, Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Released in Fall 2009, the guide was co-authored by Dana Fruend of Carson City and includes all 17 counties of the Silver State, Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
Reviewed in the September 2010 issue of Thunder Press by Bill "Press" Hayes, well known author and national public relations man for Boozefighter's MC, this first release by Moonbean Publishing is called "A friendly and entertaining 'conversation' with someone who feels passionately about their home state, sharing the best places and fun spots that they have found, know and love.

Ancona-Henry is author of "Carson City Chamber of Commerce: 60 Years of History," a poet, with work included in an international, spoken word collection, as well as an award-winning journalist with more than 25 years experience. She continues to write for the Nevada Appeal, the Silver State's longest operating business.

Limited edition prints of the photo that earned Ancona-Henry the name "Flag," will also be available.

A brushfire that occurred in Dayton Friday evening is currently in the mop up phase.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday night to a small brush fire behind Meeks Lumber in north Carson City.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. There will be aircrafts, helicopters, law enforcement vehicles, mounted horses, fire engines, giveaways, music, games and more.

I paused my stride on the sandy slope. Without the monotonous thumping of my boots on the trail, it was spectacularly quiet. There was no babbling stream, airplane rumbling overhead or distant voices of other hikers. For a few moments, not even a bird chirped.

The silence was notable.
