CARSON CITY – Nevada finds itself at the bottom of another economic analysis, this one related to entrepreneurial activity.
The State Entrepreneurship Index, a nationwide analysis and ranking system that shows how states compare in areas of business formation, patents and related activities, shows Nevada dropping a major 40 spots, from 7th in 2008 to 47 in the newest rankings released in July but using mostly 2010 data.

A quick update from today's Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting: The Carson City Ghost Walk, which provides entertaining tours of the city's historical district, failed to get enough votes to approve $12,000 in city redevelopment funds to continue the tours. The funding required four of the five supervisors to vote in favor, but it only received three votes.

CARSON CITY – Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller today released statewide active voter registration numbers through the end of July.
Statewide, Republican active voters increased to 407,866, a gain of 557 over the previous month; Democrat active voters totaled 472,987, an increase of 698; and non-partisans grew by 922 voters to a total of 179,112.

An unemployed Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after she was allegedly caught walking out of a store with two digital cameras in her purse, and and DVD player hidden in her clothing.

According to the arrest report, Shannon Gatlin, 28, was stopped by a store security officer in the 700 block of Old Clear Creek Road after he spotted the suspect removing the items from their packaging and hiding them, and trying to walk outside without paying for them. Gatlin allegedly admitted to several other thefts at the store over the last few weeks.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval today appointed Robert Halstead as executive director of the Agency for Nuclear Projects, the agency responsible for oversight of the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. He will start in the job Sept. 19.
Halstead will replace Joe Strolin, who has been serving as acting director since January.
