Nevada's gaming industry continues its climb out of the doldrums, posting a 5.72 percent increase in February over the same month a year ago.
For the fiscal year, gaming win is up 3.95 percent over the year before.
Nearly every area of the state saw strong growth in February, led by the Boulder Strip in Clark Country that saw a 22.94 percent. Washoe County saw an 8.14 percent increase in February, despite a 7.49 percent decline in North Lake Tahoe.

The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of Troy L. Abney to the position of Chief of the Nevada Highway Patrol. The department conducted a national search to fill the position and made an offer to Abney based on his extensive knowledge and experience.
“Chief Abney is an experienced professional who brings many years of leadership and will lead the division comprised of 647 employees both sworn and non-sworn,” said Director Chris Perry.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony allegations:
- Ashley Ore-Larson, 18, a Carson City woman, for conspiracy to violation the controlled substances act and possession of heroin. Ore-Larson was also arrested for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has been set at $18,500 plus administrative fees. At the same incident, officers arrested two more people for felony allegations:

CARSON CITY – The president of the powerful state teachers union said today she is “excited” that another labor organization, the AFL-CIO, plans to pursue a business profits tax initiative petition.
“It will be a big deal,” said Lynn Warne, head of the Nevada State Education Association. “We’re excited that Danny (Thompson, executive secretary-treasurer of the Nevada State AFL-CIO) has decided to move forward with this. Anything we can do about funding our schools adequately in this state is great.”

The Carson City School Board will discuss tentative budget scenarios and assumptions for the next fiscal year at their next meeting on Tuesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.
The board will also meet in closed session to discuss labor relations with the district's management representatives.
