Rehabilitated through Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a total of six orphaned bear cubs have been returned to the wild this spring, ending the California Department of Fish and Game's 2012 yearling bear release program.
The cubs were found in various locations around the state in the summer months of 2011 and were rehabilitated at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care prior to being judged ready to return to the wild. The state program is ongoing and will continue as new cubs come into the facility.

This is a final reminder that if you're one of many tens of thousands of big game hunters interested in drawing a 2012 hunting tag for Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, California Bighorn Sheep, Desert (Nelson) Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Elk and Rocky Mountain Goat in the State of Nevada, be advised that the final deadline for RECEIVING your application(s) is 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16.

The drawing results will be made available to the public by June 11.

The Carson High School Safe Grad Committee is hosting it's second annual Safe Grad 5K Walk-Run to raise funds for this year's and future Safe Grad Celebration for graduating seniors. It will take place this Saturday, April 14th starting just behind the Firkin and Fox. Sunday through Tuesday, April 22-24, are the 2012 dates for the highly-popular John Riordan Invitational Fishing Derby. John is the Assistant General Manager for the Carson Station Hotel and Casino in Carson City, and this will be the 15th version of his annual, fun-filled, fishing event at Topaz Lake.
His derby is traditionally co-headquartered at the Topaz Lake Marina and the Topaz Lake Lodge at Topaz Lake, which lies along the Nevada-California state line about 40 miles south of Carson City.

CARSON CITY – A Carson City District judge today rejected an initiative petition proposing to create a new and higher rate of taxation for Nevada’s largest casinos, finding that the 200 word description of effect of the measure was misleading.

In rejecting the petition, Judge James Todd Russell said he did not believe he had the authority to rewrite the description himself.

An incident at the Carson City Detention Facility on Monday afternoon led to felony allegations of battery by a prisoner to be added to the list of allegations for two prisoners: Lauren Kaye Smith and Kelly Lynn Davis. The two women are alleged to have attacked another female inmate. Bail has been set at $20,000 for each woman.
