The University of Nevada, Reno, in cooperation with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, has sent a team of archaeologists to excavate the site of one of Nevada’s most important early hospitals. St. Mary Louise Hospital in Virginia City opened in 1876 and served the mining community until the early 20th century.

The summer sizzles as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses and jazz lovers proudly present the 2012 "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival, an annual event that began in August 2004. Performances at multiple venues in Carson City will feature more than 100 musicians in over 50 bands, Aug. 3-19 and are mainly free. Music styles include Dixieland jazz, big band, bluegrass, Latin, blues and folk.

This is the third of a four part series of articles on our recent sightseeing and fishing trip to the Yukon in Canada.
While on that 11-day (June 18 – June 28) adventure in the Far North, Elaine and I traveled a total of six days in the “Bush,” convoying with our longtime, good friends, Barry and Susan Drury of Watson Lake, Yukon.
The Drurys were in their four-wheel drive camper pickup and we traveled in a 19-foot motorhome that had been rented in Whitehorse.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested Joshua Cook, 26, a Carson City resident, at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Cook was arrested for felony allegations of battery with substantial bodily harm after an alleged bar fight Friday night/Saturday morning, as well as misdemeanor allegations of obstructing justice. The victim was taken to Renown medical center in Reno after he was discovered by officers on a rooftop with major swelling on his face and eyes and bleeding from several places. Bail is set at $15,000.

Douglas Boyle is Nevada's new state climatologist. He will oversee operations of the Nevada State Climate Office, a public-service department in the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The state climatologist and the Nevada Climate Office collect, maintain and interpret Nevada’s climate and weather data information, publish a quarterly report and provide leadership on climatic hazards and drought planning in the state through work and consultation with the governor's office and state agencies.

Carson City, NV—Another Carson Nugget event will help bring the Vietnam Vets Traveling Memorial Wall to Carson City this fall.
During the entire month of June, the casino held a slot event to support this worthy cause. Today, the casino presented a check from the event to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388. Today’s check brings the total amount donated to this cause from the Carson Nugget to $2,000, which is just under a quarter of the group’s entire goal.
