The Carson City Pop Warner Midget Cheer Squad achieved first place in its division at the Sagebrush Empire District Cheer Competition held at Sparks Highs School on November 3, 2012. In so doing, the team has put themselves in the position to qualify for the national championships for the first time in the program’s history.

Carson City Sheriff's Office personnel and Public Works Street Operations have been busy this Tuesday morning cleaning up after taggers hit streets signs and walls with gang-related graffiti.
Street Operations for Carson City reports cleaning up at least eight spots on College Parkway along the sound wall between Sherman and Nye. The tagging was documented and stripped with sandblasters, said Justin Tiearney, street supervisor.

The Department of Public Safety Capitol Police Division will conduct a full scale emergency preparedness exercise Wednesday at the State Capitol in Carson City from 8 to 11 a.m.
The exercise will involve all employees assigned to the State Capitol. The Capitol building will be closed to the general public while this exercise is held, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Barbara Stapleton.
In September, the staff of the Capitol performed an emergency evacuation drill, in October, an earthquake drill was held and this exercise completes the three part employee safety training.

Powerful early-season storms combined with the area’s largest and most advanced snowmaking operations have allowed Vail Resorts’ Lake Tahoe mountains – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort – to open early with 111 acres. Heavenly and Northstar will open on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says an 18-month old boy isn't expected to live after authorities were called Saturday about injuries the child had sustained.
The case is under investigation. The father of the child and the girlfriend of the father who was taking care of the child are cooperating with the investigation, Furlong said.
