UPDATED: With the theme "Opening Your Heart Is The Key To Opening Doors" more than 150 attended a banquet for Friends in Helping Service, better known as FISH, on Thursday at the Carson Nugget. Along with dinner, wine and a silent auction, guests were treated to a video documentary that highlights the Carson City nonprofit agency which has provided food and shelter to those in need for 34 years.

Honorees at the event were State Senator Debbie Smith and former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean.

A rollover accident at Long and State streets in Carson City on Thursday afternoon sent a woman to the hospital via Care Flight.
The accident happened at around 1:10 and involved two vehicles, a Ford Thunderbird and an older model Chevy truck. The driver of the truck did not appear to be injured.

A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Thursday morning and faces two felony charges including a drug court warrant and being in violation of probation.

Ashley Claire Ore was arrested at 12:23 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Edmonds. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area regarding a fight in an apartment complex. As officers arrived, Ore was identified by officers as having felony warrants for her arrest.

Officers spoke with several residents in the apartment complex who denied any physical fighting, according to the arrest report.

It is no secret that since the mid to late 1990’s young people turning 18 have not flown the nest to embark on their adult lives like previous generations. Parents, expecting that their fledgling adult would be anxious to venture out on their own, away from parental rules and prying eyes, have been unpleasantly surprised that movement toward independent living has been slow or even non-existent.

And they are perplexed by the choices their young adult children are making.
